Big E Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Why do so many people hate ricketts who left to try and achieve more then? Quote
snowball Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Why do so many people hate ricketts who left to try and achieve more then? I think he was a great player for us but was badly advised and ended up like he was holding the club to ransom that's why. Rumoured at time Tottenham were keen but ended up going Middlesbrough (Big Sam's revenge?) instead. Not had a striker like him since anyway and defo wasted talent after he left us Quote
Biggish Dave Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Why do so many people hate ricketts who left to try and achieve more then? Because it made us realise we aren't a big club - see Liverpool fans with Sterling Quote
SalfordOriginal Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Because it made us realise we aren't as big as Boro EFA Quote
Zico Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Why do so many people hate ricketts who left to try and achieve more then? don't think anyone hates him, now, as he became a laughing stock at the time, it was because he went billy big bollocks after his england cap, only started scoring goals again when the transfer window came round, then ended up going to Boro because his move to Spus didn't materialise, and the reason he went there on deadline day is because he'd been that much of a cunt, he had to leave and they were the only ones who'd take him Quote
tyldesley_white Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Why do so many people hate ricketts who left to try and achieve more then? Its the way he did it, see Stubbs and Jason Mcateer for the same thing Quote
Whites man Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Its the way he did it, see Stubbs and Jason Mcateer for the same thing Frank Worthington did the same to move to Birmingham City and folk queue up to pipe him off on here. Quote

Guest Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Why do so many people hate ricketts who left to try and achieve more then? Don't hate him. He made a terrible career move and paid for it big time. Had the world at his feet at Bolton. Scoring for fun, England call up, then he seemingly let his advisers get into his head and started thinking he was better than he was. If he'd stayed here, kept his head down a couple more years he'd have ended up playing for a proper top side. Quote
tyldesley_white Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Yep that’s me, maybe it’s being 4000 miles away but I now find it hard to get information about my team (that’s even remotely accurate) so why in god’s name should I waste even more variable time looking for information on some other team, when again its inaccurate, at times I can barely give a fuck about Bolton so the other 91 teams don’t stand a chance Quote
jturner Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Ricketts is ace. His goals got us out of Div 2 and kept us up. We sold Gudjohnsen for £4 million and replaced him with a virtual unkonwn for 350k who came in and scored more goals than the Iceman. I have very fond memories of Ricketts. Quote
frank_spencer Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Ricketts was a quality player who disappeared up his own arse once he got the England call up. From being a potentially very good player he went to become a joke. His goal against Leicester where he ran through the defender is one of my all time favourites. Quote
DazBob Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Best finisher I've seen in my time following Wanderers. Better than Andy Walker. Quote

Carlos Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Ricketts was unplayable. Then months later, he was unplayable. Quote
gonzo Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 I reckon Ricketts finish at Old Trafford is the best goal I've seen scored by a Bolton player in the flesh. Quote

I lived in Leicester at the time when Ricketts was at Bolton (the 2-1 at Old Trafford being a notable game in that period). My roommate was from the midlands and actually went to school with Ricketts. He said as long as he can keep his head level he was a fantastic player. I guess that was proven when he couldn't keep his head level after his 15 minutes of fame. Quote
land_and_sea Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 (edited) I think he did say some nasty things about us though. Not only that, after the England game he never scored from open play anymore, only with penalty kicks. He just didn't seem motivated. Edited May 20, 2015 by land_and_sea Quote

radcliffe white Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Curcic scored another belter in a cup. Bradford or Leicester maybe? In my head he ran around half their team but the memory plays tricks we played Bradford in fa and Leicester in league cup that season but no idea on scorers tbh. Quote
