BOWTUN BAKED Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Not getting this Ameobi love in. The fact he scored, in a penalty box melee, might be the reason. He's slow, cumbersome & unfit. For such a big lad I thought he was shoved off the ball a bit too easily at times too. Guess it'd be boring if we all had the same opinions though! Quote
Casino Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 i thought he showed he can create stuff hes no world beater, granted, but he played a very nice little pass for feeney first half and i like a player who gives his all and his sprint very late on, when fcuked, to put a tackle in bought him some credit Quote
Mounts Kipper Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 (edited) we're scratching around the back of the settee for coppers and now you want to spend it on a midfielder having spent months crying cos we dont sign a striker with money we havent got He's earning nothing at the moment, we have some money apparently, sign him week to week and then if a striker does become available wish him well. Or cancel heskeys contract. Let's try to be creative. Edited October 24, 2015 by Mounts Kipper Quote
Casino Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 cancel it all you want what makes you think we wont need to pay it off? Quote

Circumstances dictated otherwise and he coped with something he was prepared for, but not expecting. Mind you. he's now gone an hour without scoring after only 20 minutes to his first. Quote

Sweep Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Or cancel heskeys contract. Let's try to be creative. Do you not think that might incur a cost? - I'd be very surprised if Heskey had allowed a clause in his contract allowing us to basically sack him without paying up his contract, especially as he only signed a 12 month deal. Also, do you really think that Nolan would be happy signing a contract on a "week to week" basis with the proviso that we can fuck him off if a striker becomes available? Quote
ianofcleveleys Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Feeney is shit and I mean fucking shitHe's not great but he's willing and keeps trying to play whichever position NL asks him to. Big ask to play him as a second striker, struggled with staying onside and he's not a natural finisher, decent striker wouldn't have fluffed that chance when Ameobi put him through. He's a bog standard one dimensional winger, not a wing back or a striker. Clayton should have been doing what he was asked to do today, mystery why he wasn't, unless he was unfit, in which case why have him on the bench? Quote

ianofcleveleys Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Draw as much as we deserved, though the circumstances of how we lost the lead were poor, bad goal to give away when second earlier we'd had our only decent chance of the half. Casado looked steady, calm on the ball (handy at the minute), maybe did stand off the crosser a time or two but otherwise OK Vela was also one of the few who wasn't flustered (scared) when the ball was at his feet. In our current situation he shouldn't be out of the team, whether he's at right back or in centre mid. None of the full back tried since his stint there have been any better and he was the pick of what we had in midfield today. Ameobi did well in the circumstances, as Malcolm said. Played for much longer than expected, won plenty of headers, held it up tidily and occupied their centre backs. Presence when we were defending set pieces as well. Might not have been a top Prem player but showed he has played at a decent level Quote

Guest Blixa Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Get Nobby in on a "pay as you play" deal like Ameobi Thought BSA would have already snapped him up, but maybe the Toon connection wouldn't sit very well with the Mackems. Don't Premier League teams have to confirm squads? If so, Sunderland signing Nolan would be pretty much pissimg money up the wall until January. Quote
superjohnmcginlay Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Enjoyed Ameobi more than I should've. 2nd half was...... Meh Quote
MancWanderer Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Fuck it. Should have won it. Didn't deserve to but should have won it We really needed at least 3 points from 2 consecutive home games and have ended up with 1 That's not good and is absolutely definitely relegation form Preston now for me is the turning point of our season. Come out of that game with nowt and we are well and truly fucked as I really don't see how we can move onwards and upwards from there with our current squad Quote
Guest Blixa Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 So where were Reading at this point 4 years ago? Quote

He's doing a sterling job there with the resources! Quote
ianofcleveleys Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 (edited) If Kevin Nolan signed for us, he'd be our leading scorer, nailed on. A lot of the teams we've been up against haven't been that good defensively, even against as moderate at attack as ours, but tend to have at least one and maybe two decent strikers who cover for any deficiencies. We haven't one striker who will consistently score, and we don't have midfielders who chip enough in either. Wasn't that concerned in first five or six games when we weren't scoring but looking fairly solid and keeping a few clean sheets. We then suddenly score a few but let more in and now look like NL doesn't know what he wants us to be. Preston is for sure a big game Edited October 24, 2015 by ianofrochdale Quote
