I don't think anyone would give a shit if he got the trains running properly and people weren't paying through the nose for it. And he seems like one of those blokes who is universally well liked barring the usual types who wouldn't like anybody appointed by Labour. And if the plan is to re- nationalise then it makes sense to have some sort of figurehead to lead it that people can get behind. Too few leaders knocking about in this day and age.

And it might also be an easy olive branch to some people on the left of the party who feel disenfranchised.

I'm a visionary 😉

Which is pretty much one of the reasons it won't happen - amongst the other.

It's fascinating to see "progressive" Ireland's response to the latest migration crisis developments

A 'progressive' government is one thing. A conservative electorate is another.

Looks like the ROI are suffering because of the Rwanda plan.

Hard to say specifically, but numbers up recently may indicate an effect.

Quite ironic that one of the entry routes into the UK has been through Republic of Ireland and then into Northern Ireland.

Now it's on the other foot and they don't like it.

Having declared the uk not a safe country, they've fucked themselves somewhat.

Just get together and take the lot of them from the whole British Isles, and deliver them, by ships back to France/North Africa or wherever their transit routes are.

A Brexit benefit ! Look at all the extra tax that will be generated by these checks at the border.

Came into force today (or was meant to seems like they were announced late so systems not set up so no one sure what will charged or when)

Higher consumer prices are surely something we can just absorb if you want some Hungarian products.

France do it. Why shouldn't we?

Exactly what is required. It won't register with you but it would be for your own good.

He's spot on. Akin to what Australia did in turning back the boats.

The people smugglers would be out of business in an instant and deaths in the channel would become negligible again.

No matter if you are for or against Brexit, you have to admit the whole continuation of "frictionless" trade has been a massive, massive balls up - The Government really should hang their head in shame at how unprepared, we were when we left, and we still are all these years later. It's a huge fuck up.

I wasn't aware our imports were this high though

Quote

Britain imports 22% of its beef, 21% of its sheep meat and 49% of its pork, and relies on the EU for the bulk of those import
