I'm not suggesting that I think the Government will delay using Pfizer based on cost, they'll take it as soon as it's ready.............I just get a feeling that it's not really going to be ready anytime soon, and we're still a few months away Fingers crossed we get something and soon, but I'd be very surprised if we start vaccinating anybody this year. In the ideal world, the Oxford vaccine comes good, and we can vaccinate ourselves at a low cost, and with a simple procedure, and then make a shit load of money selling it abroad I’m sure Dido Harding Consultancy Limited are ready for a £1bn contract to advise on our best vaccine strategy. birch-chorley
This nonsense in schools has to stop Cant keep fucking kids educations up when it poses no real risk to them If they have it / are showing systems then fair enough, 14 days at home. But beyond that, sending whole classes / year groups away is ridiculous!

Does seem heavy handed in one sense, but can understand not wanting to risk a sizeable outbreak in a class that might risk a localised community spike. The question seems to imply that they'll only be coming from Europe. Pfizer has manufacturing capacity all over the place, including the UK. Just another dig without basis, unless of course planes won't fly, and ships won't sail and trains won't run. Then we can receive them on dinghies full of migrants. birch-chorley
Interesting read... Economy left playing catch-up with rest of the world https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/economy-playing-catch-up-with-rest-of-the-world-2tv2mczzk Essentially saying the U.K. Economy has been worst hit (marginally better than Spain, worse than the rest) given that our restrictions went much further than other countries (apart from Spain) Our GDP has gone backwards -9% vs the likes of Italy, US, Germany and France all at -4% (our GDP only went backwards by -6% in 2008 / 2009 crash) Not just because we are a service led economy either, our GDP is 80% services as is the US, France is 79%, even Germany is 70% services Given all of that I’m not buying all this ‘we’ve done exactly what the rest of the world are doing so it must be right’. Clearly we have gone way above and beyond our comparable set when restricting businesses from operating

Despite those efforts, Britain -- which passed 50,000 coronavirus fatalities on Wednesday, Europe’s highest death toll -- has suffered the biggest GDP drop among major economies listed by the Office for National Statistics. Britain’s initial lockdown lasted longer than in other countries and hammered services firms which make up 80% of the economy. GDP remained almost 10% smaller than at the end of 2019, twice as big as the falls in Italy, Germany and France and nearly three times the size of the U.S. drop, the ONS said. birch-chorley
3 x the damage that the US economy has seen! Double the likes of France, Italy and Germany Clearly our restrictions have done much greater damage to our economy than comparable countries who have the same or very similar sized service sector
