I can categorically state ,some soldiers who served in Northern Ireland were guilty of behaviour that could be found as a crime whilst in the pursuit of their duty. There is plenty of evidence.Vast majority didnt and were in a difficult position, it’s for those ones , the ones that just did their tour , the ones that potentially committed crimes should be investigated for as much as the victims , anybody who supports the reputation of the army should want it too as it tarnishes the whole lot if it’s its seen as a whitewash
to say otherwise is what is ignorant of the facts
to blindly support someone just because they were in the British army is naive at best .
this isn’t anti army or anything political , I get the “ terrorists released “ argument to an extent but the fact is , they were found guilty , served whatever sentence before being cut short, rightly or wrongly some members of the armed forces behaved in a way not fit of the reputation during the troubles and have yet to be held to account .
I’m not talking about situations where say a soldier felt threatened and reacted in wrong way in hindsight ,or even mistakes , they shouldn’t be punished , as I say they were in a difficult hell hole at times, I’m talking deliberate acts with severe consequences that some engaged in .
