  1. It clearly hit Charles when he had to place the crest on the coffin and watch it go down. Strip away all the massive situation around this, today he was a bloke burying his mum, and maybe that was the first time he’s had chance to fully take that in. That (and the piper) we’re the bits that, in the end, I found the most powerful and personal. Aside from that, Britain put on a flawless display over the last 11 days. GSTK 👑 🇬🇧

  3. Just got home. Was at Hyde Park for the London section, watching on the big screens with tens of thousands of others who wanted to be part of it. Wandered down to Green Park and Piccadilly for a spot of lunch, after the Queen left Wellington Arch. Amazing atmosphere. I’m not a royalist, but it was something the kids and I will always remember. Will put my feet up with a glass of wine when the nippers are in bed and will watch the Windsor leg, which was on record.

  5. With 5 subs per game, half the starting XI might play 70mins or less.

  6. The only midfielder who's played more minutes than Lee this season is MJ Williams.

  7. Not sure what you expected, nor would have wanted. Meant to be a solemn occasion, but with visibility for the people. Absolutely emaculate. Planning, pomp and professionalism at its finest. She was never going to be whisked away at high speed, nor was the music ever going to be particularly upbeat. I've never been in the military, but I have been in brass bands and played in many ceremonial events. Marching and playing is bloody tough, keeping in step, whilst avoiding bursting your lips whilst stumbling on a rough bit if road. The length of time they play for was is also demanding. A tremendous performance from everyone.

  8. Makes him feel superior. Ironic that someone who is supposed to be so for "the people" comes across more snobby than Lord Snooty.

  9. I think you think about stuff way too much. You dont need an A level in British History to make sense of everything on show today. Theres been enough explanation on the radio and TV all day for starters.

  10. I'm not actually sure it is ignorant to think no other country does pomp and ceremony quite like the British.

  11. Does he? To me hes always been announced as from Bolton. Wore a Bolton badge on his shorts and has never ever said he supported United. He simply posed in a united kit on a promotional day. Not being funny half our lot are pinks anyway.

  12. No news as yet, but we walked from Walkden in memory of a mate- the club allowed me in for the game. Knees and glutes done now though

  13. My Rangers comment was just a joke brother. I've got friends up here who support both teams and it would be a massive loss if they left. Unlike you I can see both sides to it. I'm not completely oblivious to some of the awful anti-Irish songs that Rangers fans sing. And I'm not willing to forgive them (your words) because they respect the Queen. Neither am I saying the Green Brigade are innocent. It was just funny seeing the hypocrisy of the right wing press meltdown the other day. All perfectly summed up by your good self when you took offence at the Fuck the Crown banner but thought making a famine joke was fine 👍 Glasgow wouldn't be what it is without the Irish immigrant influence. From music to industry, It's a richer city for it and the connection is special. And of course the same applies to the British influence. I thought as an immigrant this is something you'd also understand? As for your economic rant about Scotland.... Hows the state of the British public purse? Everything booming? Can't blame folk for wanting an alternative form of economics.

  14. Just the usual quick Bolty fact check for ya folks; Less than half of English people (46%) say they want Scotland to remain part of the UK. Few want to see the nation pull away, however, at just 13%. Most of the rest (34%) have no opinion, saying that they consider it a matter for the people of Scotland to decide.

  15. A West Ham mate of mine was there at Goodison and WhatsApped me after the game. Reckons that a good number scousers booed the memorials to the Queen; wreath laying etc. Irrespective of their views on the monarchy and acting with decency and respect, they missed an open goal in the moral high ground stakes. The whole country would be siding with Everton in future derbies etc. Instead, it's the 'always the victim' card again. By contrast, it seems that the West Ham fans behaved impeccably and belted out the national anthem a few times. It's a shame we can't detach the city of Liverpool and moor it in Dublin Bay. They'd be more at home there.

  16. We had a decent thread a while back discussing Evatt’s philosophies and approach to the game (think it got tainted and pulled) So not a bad time to start it up again at the beginning of the season. In the main he’s done a fantastic job. A minority lost patience round about Xmas/New Year in both seasons. But surely now he has the large backing of the majority of fans and the brand he talked about implementing here is now well and truly established. Good article above highlighting how he’s using Sport Science to get the squad performing to it’s optimum level. A young, meticulous, intelligent and passionate individual, who we are very lucky to have leading our club. I hope he gets what he deserves with promotion to the Championship.

  17. Only one word to describe the whole thing really. Magnificent!! Drove across to Bolton to sit and watch it with my mother. An 85 year old out and out royalist. The cynic in me was saying that the “costumes” that some folk were wearing made it look like a cross between “It’s A Knockout” and a Shakespeare production from “Bolton Little Theatre” in the ‘70s. She soon had me convinced that to lose the tradition and spectacle would be flushing our history down the toilet. Dont think I’ve ever driven to her house and seen the roads so quiet. It was eery. From the end of St Peter’s Way right up to near Eagley there was barely a car on the road. After watching the funeral I stood outside her front door just after the coffin set off from Wellington Arch to Windsor. Absolute silence. No traffic. No folk. Nothing. Today was definitely one for the memory bank

  21. Bit daft using minutes purely as a marker. Our strikers are frequently replaced, guess none of them have much of an engine. Here's me thinking it's all part of the policy of trying to win games.

  27. Tv coverage is amazing. Great technical feat all the different angles, close ups , far shots the lot, yet never see another camera or crew in the shot ( maybe behind those green screens on the way up to the castle but no cables, tv trucks, generators or anything. )

  28. Boxers love to associate themselves to football clubs. I think it helps but bottoms on seats as it's just another piss up for a load of rowdy lads. Khan doesn't know the first thing about football, listened to his interview with Neville last week, he named Okocha from our premier league years and couldn't think of anyone else.

  37. Thankfully that'll never happen. It's ridiculous when Celtic and Rangers push for it. They can fuck right off, they're Scotch, not English, so they can stay put. Anybody who wants then in the English league, just doesn't like or appreciate the history of the game.

  40. Hopefully? They should let the English vote on that as it would likely be a landslide. I doubt we will even give permission for another referendum on independence which is probably a godsend for Scotland as you'd be fucked without the public purse - the vast majority of which is generated in England. North Sea oil isn't yours and soon no one will want the stuff anyway. That leaves whisky and tourism. You'd be royally fucked. Rangers can come to England anytime for me. I wonder if we can offer a package deal in a swap scenario? You can have Liverpool, Everton, FGR, Trampmere, DMB's and Wigan. Has to be a good deal? Pretty bubbles in the air............

  42. I think first half we ended up stooping down to their levels of niggly shithousery which took any flow out of the game whatsoever. Helped by a referee who had no control, it was a first half which made us look worse than we are. How we can see shirts being pulled at set pieces from the stands but a weak official 10 yards away can’t, I don’t know. I put this on Twatter at half time but I feel we need to be a bit smarter at times. If the refs pulling 2 players out for a word before a corner/set piece, 9 times out of 10 he’s going to give a free kick as soon as it’s played. At that point, play it short - don’t give the ref a reason to penalise you. Second half once we’d composed ourselves it was a different game. Considering the hype surrounding them and their football, there was only one team trying to get the ball down. Has that number 8 taken any of those free kicks on halfway yet?

  43. Yes - good point, he’s most certainly spreading the faith. Its already happening, but who would have thought a few years ago that a “YouTuber” would have so much influence. Whether you like it or not, young people for the next 20/30 years are going to reference Thogden as to why they follow the whites. I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, you can’t blame him for following the clicks, the sponsors, the money. And if that means him following the Big Games around the world, then why the hell not? He’s good at what he does. It’s going to set him up for life. I still maintain that his best and most Passionate videos are of the Whites. For anyone in doubt just look at his Forest video when we stayed up. I’m always quite open to an alternative view and often change my mind accordingly. But I’m yet to hear an alternative view that this is just a BOLTON fan that’s made it into the big time. Albeit in a way and manner that us oldies find hard to relate to. I find it hard to not like that story.
