Barnsley away 2nd leg

Imagine the furore if Barnsley won 1-0 with 5k away fans and we couldn't turn it around in front of 2k away.

And vice versa.

There's no easy answer other than reciprocating the other clubs... especially if you take the cash out of the equation with a combined split pot

You could just call Barnsley gay Yorkshire bumders

We beat Sunderland 5-0 last season when they filled the stand. And lost to about 26 people supporting Stanley two weeks ago. We've taken big followings to places and got dicked, a couple of hundred to others and won etc.

It's embarrassing for any professional football club to be afraid of the other team's fans. It's shit for everyone and will only stop when some teams grow a pair instead of this tit for tat nonsense.

*6-0

Stakes are high so you can't blame them for going for every conceivable advantage they can get. Like clattering Bradley in the first minute. And the second.

If they play like Luton we have to discourage them by getting at their defence more than they get at ours and there's no point in sending over crosses from wide or hoofing it up the park in the general vicinity of the strikers - Barnsley lap that up. We need to do it our way i.e.. pass through and around them - which will require quality, speed, bravery and maybe a bit of luck.

I wasn't joking on the other thread about playing two 10s in a 3421 because their mid 3 presses high and they wouldn't like it if we have a couple of players finding space behind them, ready to turn and make an attacking front 3 with runners to arrive.

I'd seriously think about dropping Kacha and starting a pair of tricky buggers with good close touch behind Dion to see if we can unsettle them with movement and passing early doors - can always change it if it's not working. Not sure Evatt likes Lee and Sheehan on the park at the same time but this is the kind of game where we need quality on the ball - it may even be a game made for someone like Shoretire if he's learned to stop falling over yet.

Don't understand this point at all. Why would Barnsley "play like Luton"? What if WE "play like Luton"?

Surely you know that's not how it works? "Right lads, Luton have just beat Sunderland. Go out there and just copy what they did."

Barnsley are going to play like Barnsley. It might suit us to have them open up a bit more and be on the offensive. They will leave more gaps for us to take advantage of but we have to defend properly and not give an early goal away.

I've seen a few people saying on social media etc that we should play an extra midfielder and leave Dion up top on his own. I don't like this idea. If they press high and force the long ball it's going to keep coming back at us because Dion can't hold it up well enough.

I'll leave it up to Evatt to decide which one partners Dion but somebody has to IMO.

If this had been last season, I'd have worried about us standing up to Barnsley's press tomorrow. This year, we are far more well equipped to, but we need to be on our A game.

We need to play our way, I'd be surprised to see too many changes from the first leg in all honesty. Maybe Kachunga, maybe a body in the middle, potentially John at LWB, but nothing wholesale.

The point is.... with our squad we can't play like Luton or Barnsley - so why don't we play like Bolton? - only focus even more on our strengths i.e. more artists, less donkeys.

Still none the wiser.

Go on, I’ll take you on, 2 questions:

- What makes you think we won’t play like Bolton?

- Who are the donkeys we should avoid?

13k

Correct, they can’t get to 19k given we have less than half filled the North Stand and they’re not selling to their own fans plus there are seats in the other stands that can’t be filled for safety reasons. All good for us when we make a noise. 🤗

I’d say so that sounds about right. Still much higher than their average for league games and enough to make a noise if we let them but so let’s hope we get an early lead and give them nothing to shout about?

im thinking i'll be pig sick if we lose on friday

i want to know how pig sick is acceptable

so, what is the population of barnsley?

about 85% of Bolton's, I'd say.

So you can be disappointed, but not depressed.

Sadly not Casino, my daughter’s working nights (nurse) so I’ve got my 6yr old granddaughter but I’ll get her to bed before it kicks off and watch on Sky. We’re on a hill overlooking Barnsley and I can see the floodlights so if we score I can go in the garden and jump around!! 🤗

I think MJ will start Friday, that will give more physicality and will hopefully allow us to win the ball back quicker and also allow Dempsey more freedom to get forward, I would also expect a change up top to also add more strength and put the Barnsley back line under more pressure. Forgot how stomach churning play offs are I will pleased when it is all over.

what if Barnsley play like Brazil?

they used to sing that under Danny Wilson (apparently it started against us at BP as well)

we may struggle against Brazil

especially if Neil Redfearn starts
