Dougie Freedman - New Manager

Bewildered is a good word. Not just about chasing a young and untried manager but also about some of the comments about MM and Holloway etc.

Give me an experienced bloke to manager Premiership players any day of the week. We are looking at getting out of the Championship in an upward direction here. Nothing more at this stage.

It might be that I've just missed it, but I've never heard the club say anything about that. I thought it was just a case of putting them 3 in charge until we found a replacement.

As for the amount of stick Freedmans getting, I can't believe it. He's not my first choice but to say he's a backward choice etc is a joke, the same people then say that we should keep Phillips who has less experience than Freedman.

If he gets the job then he gets my full backing, I just hope he does from the rest of the crowd.

he will get the backing, but the honeymoon period will be shorter than coyle had. can see why the board are going in this direction with a younger man in charge to supplement the new youth set up . but surely we should be walking before we run, horses for courses and all that the only aim should be to get out of this league, employing DF will lengthen our odds.

I think most folk agree that our team is good enough to be at least play off places.

But why do some folk still want McCarthy with a track record of managing 2 premiership clubs and getting them both relegated.

Do you honestly think we would drop him if he got us promoted.

Mick McCarthy = no long term vision.

Never seen this Appleton bloke we were linked with until today...

He looks like a bloody smackhead.

Why, cos he's got a bald head and he's thin?

Does my fookin head in that (yes I'm thin and bald)

I've known many a smackhead with a full thatch, not too many fatties though.

I think that is the criteria he has to accept, Freedman up top with JP and SL alongside him, I could live with that, just not Lenny fucking Lawrence anywhere near the place.

I'm not totally unhappy with the appointment if it happens.

According to London rags, he has "asked to leave the club", which was the reason in the turn around in statements from Palace yesterday. The fact he has done this means that the deal must be done, as he has burned his bridges with his beloved CP fans.

If I had a choice between McM, Keane, Souness or Freedman. I would have plumped for Freedman. The fact that the Dingles(x2) are not offering the afore mentioned names the managers jobs (and in Blackburn's case after 3.5 weeks and mediocre results ) says a lot.

If he keeps Jim-Sam-Ju in the back room, I'll be happy.

He has Ratty's blessing.

Get behind the man. Promotion is still the aim. Onwards and upwards.

He's bringing in Lennie Lawrence and Curtis Fleming according to the Croydon newspaper.

Those whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad.

Palace fans seem worried about Lawrence going. You suspect he has more influence than you might think.

lawrence being their sammy lee?

an old head

the old head coyle was too insecure to have on board, perhaps

Almost certainly. Not a bad track record Lawrence in his own right. Wouldn't want him managing us, but as support, decent option, especially if Little Sam is still in the mix on the coaching side.

That leaves Curtis Fleming putting the cones out.

Oh well, that's what Sandy Stewart did for the best part of 3 years.

well, we want the first team to be the number one priority and i guess it is

but it's very important that the academy functions and flourishes

if we're happy with that side of things, why rip it all up

i guess

and freedman has credit in the bank for using the products of their academy so its fitting

he has to be able to make the first team work, but thats only part of his job and its the part we will judge him on

gartside has to see a bigger picture

I hear Marland was drawing the contract for Freedman last night, his back room team are coming, where does that Leave Phillips and Sammy Lee? granted you could say they were happy with there lot under Coyle however I have a feeling that might change under a new manager and set up, It seems little thought has been put on the impact on this I can see a divided camp ultimately ending in many of the long term lads getting hacked off and going somewhere else.

How do you know little thought has been put into the set up.

The way I see it the academy is vitally important to the long term future of the club. We need good solid and experienced paeople running it and also integrating the "product" into the first team.

This is were JP and SL come in. They are highly qualified coaches who have been brought through or brought in to oversee this and make it a success.

Why move them to first team and then have to recruit at the academy level when you can bring in a manager who can also fit into the long term project. (DF brings through young players at Palace)

I suspect all these discussion have been had with the relavent people as we need to remember the people running our club are experienced businessmen.
