Casino Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Talking about Bolton town centre, I'm currently reading Work Town which I got for Christmas - anyone else read this book? If you haven't, and you are from or live in Bolton, you should. wow looks proper good that id generally get the kindle version and its a good price is it full of pictures that the kindle wont do justice too? Not in Crawley Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Get it on Kindle - if you want to look at the images and know more, you can go here: http://boltonworktown.co.uk/ Quote
kent_white Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 This Bolton Scene paper. I've been saying for a long time what a waste it is. My presumption was it was some kind of tax loophole. Like how Virgin and Sky get part of their tax back by posting out those shite magazines on a quarterly basis and calling themselves 'publishers'. I could have understood if it was. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Do councils pay tax? I've not a clue. Anyway its decent paper and is good for getting the stove going- a higher calorific value than most newspapers. Quote
frank_spencer Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 It's £3.8 million for a totally new look Museum. This is from Capital funding, revenue from a touring exhibition and money from Eddie Davies as well as other local sponsors. The gallery will include a darkened 'belief' section focusing on the afterlife which will be an interactive walk-through with a full-size recreation of the tomb of Thutmose III, plus a revamped Rotunda. I like the sound of the 'reflections' section which ponders on the similarities of Ancient Egyptians and Boltonians! The idea is to drive national and international tourism into one of the most extensive collections of Egyptology in the UK. The concept visuals look pretty good. The best bits of the egyptology collection went on a tour of the far east. It's apparently the best permanent collection in the country outside London. Quote
kent_white Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 The best not be getting rid of that black woman with the big bazungas. 46F Quote
Youri McAnespie Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) They were in the library last (the slavery sculptures)... I didn't have a sly lick/suck as I'm not ten anymore, nor did I have any mates around to egg each other on. Not aimed at Kent, but in general, can that 'full version' button not get shifted on here btw? Sick of writing witty and incisive posts then pressing 'full version' by accident and losing them, the ones I write to replace those lost usually end up as drivel. Whites man Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 You know that paper you get through the door occasionally, Bolton Scene. Th one you don't look at and peel spuds on. Well it costs us 150k. That's a disgrace. Taking budget aware from the Vegan Lesbian Offenders Rehabilitation programme. Quote
embankment Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) As long as they leave the mummy alone , the museum will always have visitors. Last time I was in there was also a belting painting of Amir . Edited January 6, 2017 by embankment Quote

The one that's at half five when most working people are on their way home & with a number of other agenda items, one being the Spacial "Lets build on every green bit left" Framework, so there's not enough time to give each adequate airtime? Youri McAnespie Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 I heard news of an exciting new project on The Odeon bombsite over Christmas... Quote
frank_spencer Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 I heard news of an exciting new project on The Odeon bombsite over Christmas... Last i heard there was talk of extending the market over to that site. but that was only a proposal Quote
MickyD Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 LINK to the agreement between Asons and BMBC if anyone's interested and/or thinking of getting down Queen's Park for the scrutiny meeting on wednesday. Just Fast Forward to 7.1 where they talk about what they do if they suspect fraudulent use of public money Quote
Youri McAnespie Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Last i heard there was talk of extending the market over to that site. but that was only a proposal I was being facetious, Frank. The didicoy had a few waltzers and sundry other rides on there during the festive period... Not knocking them btw (the fairground folk) - at least the site was getting some use, and hopefully those noncey types have been weeded out. Quote

Possibly related to the oirish developers who fled town owing a fortune. Quote
Youri McAnespie Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Clifford should've fronted up to the fairground operators and demanded a share of their ride takings then, they'd have shit themselves and coughed up straightaway...He's like sommat out of Get Carter. Quote
barryk32 Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Went to the new cinema yesterday and thought it was ace. I rarely go to the pictures because I find it fucking extortionate, however if you book online here it's a fiver, can't go wrong. Massive comfy seats and licenced so you can take a beer in with you. Smiffs Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 Can't be having that. I'd be needing a piss and a smoke every 15 minutes during the film. Quote
Not in Crawley Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 Nevermind the town centre, over xmas I did the usual and took the kids to walk round Rivi as there is bugger all else to do. ended up going for a drink (well, a coffee) in one of the pubs in Horwich (can't remember its name) by god it was fucking awful. The in-laws were walking around Horwich taking the piss saying its all a bit Royston Vasey, and they come from Heaton Mersey. So I have to say, since when has Horwich claimed this rather undeserved reputation as an oasis of beauty and culture in Bolton? Its a bit 'hills have eyes' Quote
Sweep Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 . So I have to say, since when has Horwich claimed this rather undeserved reputation as an oasis of beauty and culture in Bolton? To be fair, even the residents know it's pretty shit, I think the "reputation" is just a bit of a piss take Quote
Winchester White Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 I am surprised the pub sold you a coffee you big puff. Quote
Not in Crawley Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 I know, I'm only fishing... I had five kids with me and I was driving...plus the beer looked rank. You'll be happy to know they charged my an eye watering amount for a coffee and 5 cokes. Would hve been cheaper to have the bitter. Quote
