Marketing innit.

Kids always want Domino's.

Same with Oreos.

Yeah fair point.

The kids and especially the missus are right suckers for advertising. Honestly it is like they lose their fucking marbles over an advert for something they don't need or even actually want.

Only time it has worked out is when every bastard wanted the John Lewis teddy penguins from their Christmas advert. She bought 2 pairs for stupid money off Ebay then sold one pair for almost double. So the little'un was happy, she was smug and I made a few quid. Not that the money lasted long of course.

I have never understood how they became so big, their pizzas are shite and fucking expensive.

Not a fan of Papa John's either.

When we lived in Winchester there was this tiny Italian place round the corner from the cathedral, it did the best pizza I have ever tasted. Mega thin crispy bases and fresh toppings washed down with a Moretti or two. Happy days.

Aldi do a stonebaked range, one of them is pesto mozzarella and sundried tomatoes. £3.50 it’s sublime

Went to a friends house last Christmas 4 of us got dominoes £48. Felt shit after eating it and still annoyed at the price

Aldi and lidl both do great pizzas far better than dominos etc and a fraction of the cost.

there is an Italian in town that does amazing pizzas probably some of the best Ive tasted but 15 quid each it’s a no from me , unless someone else Is paying then I happily indulge

Went to Bury today. Those extolling its virtues on here need to stray away from the triangle where M&S, Debenhams, Nando’s, Barclays, etc.,are situated. Beyond that, Bury is no less a shithole that Bolton has become. Empty shops, charity shops, pound shops, beggars and all very similar stuff to Bolton.

On Saturday night my mate paid £30 for Dominos pizzas for him & the family.....

He said it was shite too...

My pepperoni pizza from Aldi cost 67p, although I did add some Jalapeños & a bit of Peri Peri seasoning.....

The frozen Spinach & Ricotta from Aldi are nice too (£1.30ish).

Domino's is indeed a triumph of marketing over quality. The tomato sauce is like ketchup.

Fratelli's is genuinely the best pizza I've ever had. It's all about the oven. Wood fired and hot enough to cremate a whale.

Trouble is he fills up quick so get your orders in early.

Hope i get a soap on a rope for Christmas, don't know how anyone could manage without.

Have you tried Alan Partridges two soap method?

Yep. Always used to get the Aldi ones but Lidl have introduced some that are even better

Best pizza I ever had back in the day was Franca’s on St George’s Road. Used to get the Franca’s Special, a lasagne and a tomato bread. When I moved to Manc I used to drive over and buy the same from that stall in the market hall. Gutted when it shut down

Had francas last night. Ace pizzas. Mrs always insists on getting one of them tomato breads, belting they are. £33 fucking quid I spent in there yesterday, we did get tonight's tea out of it as well though so not too bad I suppose

They used to do a fantastic pizza with a bolognese sauce base instead of tomato. Or was that the Franca’s special?

Next question is does the place on St George’s Road do “ready to cook” pizzas like the market hall stall used to? If so, this thread has me driving across very soon

And do you know what’s strange? I haven’t got an iPhone! I use a Galaxy something or other Android. I meant iPad.

They still do the bolognese base on a few of the pizza’s yes, it comes on the Carnevale one that I usually get 👍🏻
Also, I’m sure I’ve seen a sign in there for “take and bake” which I assume is what your referring too.

The only times I have ever ordered Dominos in my life is a couple of times when it was the 2 for Tuesdays BOGOF offer. They can fuck off if they think I will ever pay full price.

Although the last time I had it both me and the gf at the time were violently ill afterwards, so never had it since.

Dominoes at the bottom of Derby Street would occasionally take a large order for delivery but find that nobody at the delivery address had ordered.

They always ended up at the fire station rather than in the bin

I can absolutely and categorically state that a free dominoes pizza is far, far tastier than a full whack expensive one.

really light and tasty and a fraction of the price of takeaways.

Cracking idea that

people who pay dominoes prices are mugs

Their Molisana (italian sausage) was good - they had no chairs or owt at The Market Hall place  so to eat fresh you'd have to buy a coke or sommat from the cafe adjacent and sit there - they weren't arsed about you eating stuff from Francas but a coke or brew was about £2.50.

Bella's americano though I ain't been in years reminds me of post 'sneaking into the Water Place' food as a kid. No wonder it got knocked down, apart from paying to use the gym or training pool as a young adult I can't recall ever paying as a kid - towel wrapped around the waist, shorts under jeans, boxers and carrier bag (for after) in pocket, in the exit door and we'd be down the spiral staircase before they even twigged, job was a good 'un - if you did get copped we could act all indignant "We've not even got any kit - we're just looking for our mates!"...

Dominos - I remember when the Derby Street place opened up - there was an article in the BEN, probably so they could ponce free pizzas. The franchise owner in the accompanying photo looked like a serial killer deranged holding a open pizza box (with pizza) "It buys this or else it gets the hose again..." - Rat central down there too (around Rajas, McDonalds, KFC, Dominos etc.) Big mill at the back...

29 years of perfecting my technique means I prefer my own homemade pizzas over owt - but I simply can't be arsed so end up with an Aldi or Lidl one tarted up a bit.

Any takeaway doing curry - they couldn't make a decent pizza with a gun to their head - and usually use that 'simulated' cheese.

Fratellis - might be good, but my inverted snobbery means I'd never buy owt from places that say 3.5 or 7.5 instead of £3.50 or £7.50. Which means I'd probably starve to death in that London.
