I may well be totally wrong about Victor, only time will tell but then I’ve championed his case through all the criticism. The only time he was ever played centrally was at Burton before we signed him and if you look at his 15 goals, all but two were inside the box. He didn’t spend time holding it up or chasing defenders down like Dion he just got into positions in the box and scored. I think SS will give him a chance once he’s fit but who knows? I certainly hope he does but time will tell. He scored 11 for Burton. 2 were pens, 9 from open play (of which 3 were in 1 game v FGR). Pre-Burton he scored 8 in 100+ games. Its wide of the mark to suggest he's ever been a fox in the box except for a purple patch. He did have a good half season for Burton, but that's all it was, how IE saw that as enough to pay half a mil in the days when we weren't spending much is anyone's guess. Quote

Popular Post gonzo Posted August 11, 2025 Popular Post Posted August 11, 2025 Said it before but Vic was part of partnership that had us top of the league or there abouts with 300 games in hand. Who knows what a new system and SS can do with him. Worth a try innit? Everyone is on a clean slate. Quote
ianofcleveleys Posted August 11, 2025 Posted August 11, 2025 When Vic was at his previous clubs, such as at Barnsley, where, by the way, he played 60 games in the Championship, he played more of a wide forward / winger, facing the goal, running at people. He was far from prolific but must have done something right. At Burton I remember him being, again, not the main striker but running hard, stretching defences, covering ground. About as baffling as Evatt's 'next Ivan Toney' comment that he thought Vic would be an ideal target man and hold up player. He did as he was told, tried manfully at it and, however he got them, had 10 goals in three quarters of the season before he got crocked. I can't really see it, and a loan in Jan looks most likely, but it's maybe not beyond possibility that he could be seen as a back up option out wide of the front three Quote
bolton va va Posted August 11, 2025 Posted August 11, 2025 The run that Burstow made when he scored Saturday's 2nd goal.......Vic did that time & again but the ball wasn't played in 1st time with our previous wingers/wing backs & the chance was gone. Now with wingers putting crosses in 1st time like ACD did, Vic could score a few. He'll probably be behind Dalby & Burstow but definitely should get a chance. Quote

My mistake it was 13 goals one of which was a pen but that’s largely irrelevant because mu point is that all but two and the pen were scored inside the box, something he was never encouraged to do under Evatt, other than once when he scored his hat trick, which you might think would have told Evatt something? Sadly it didn’t but I’m hoping that Schu will at least give Vic a chance before writing him off as some here have. Quote
deeane Koontz Posted August 12, 2025 Posted August 12, 2025 Remember Vic and Jerome starting one game and they both made a bunch of top runs but our midfield ignored every single one of them and spent most of the game trickling the ball back and forth to each other. Felt like headbutting the wall Last time I looked he seemed like he bulked up and was trying to be a hold up player. But his first touch tends to be a war crime. He'd be more suited to SS football than Evatt's treacle. Decent option to have from the bench if nothing else. Quote
Rizlar Posted August 12, 2025 Posted August 12, 2025 How many players have we had who IE ruined with his tippy tappy football? Quote

Looks a handful the lad, similar to ACD, played well enough in the league above last year, maybe lacked a bit in terms of output. Have to see if @green genie has a review for us. Imagine that likely means we're happy with the striker options we have now if Dalby is up to speed soon. Edited August 12, 2025 by meanderson93 Quote
