ianofcleveleys Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Highly questionable for me going for anyone in the Jan window who isn't fit to get straight on the pitch and contribute. If they arrive in the last few days of the window they've only around 16-17 games to make an impact as it is Quote

But K Lee, MJ Williams, Dapo and Felipe Morias all came in at this time of year. For balance so did Kion Etete and that lad that played a lot of space invaders, think he is out of prison now. Quote

Christie is bloody awful. Looks like he's playing in vets league. ACD misses the support and energy Cogley provided. Quote

I agree on Cogley but Christie's crosses are by far the best we have seen in a long time, just a pity they are only on corners. Quote

Then pay him to coach others how to. I'm constantly amazed at how poorly professional players do this. Quote

Aside from Christie's corners on Saturday and Morley's if he's playing, I see better set piece delivery at Tempest United. You know, corners and free kicks that end up near the players attacking the ball in the middle. And another wierd thing is the players trying to score are marked man for man by defenders. Quote

We've currently got the second best defence in the league, and we've not had a goalkeeper make a save in half a season. I've been as critical of us as anyone, but someone in that defence has to be good. Quote
Eagle85 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 (edited) Can't believe we're getting rid of Cogley. Happily accept him giving the ball away a few times for the energy and pace he offers. Not saying its the only reason but ACD drop off happened exactly at the time he started getting less games. Christie is no improvement and is helping contribute to our slow lethargic play recently. Don't get me wrong though, Cogley not good enough to play the lone wide man if he does link up with Evatt again. Takes a special talent for that role. Can't see it going well. Zog1 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Also worth noting the results have gotten worse the more game time Sheehan has played. The inverse of Cogley. Honestly though i dont think the issues with this team originate in the playing staff, i think it's purely tactical. Quote

Toal and Johnston playing well, Forino sound enough when required, Forrester would be a good 4th man if fully recovered. Both full back positions could do with strengthening up though. Quote

masi 51 Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Think we have no stand out at right back and all three are out of contract in June. Christie is the only one SS signed and when he plays he is the set ball specialist. Tutu is no better than either Cogley or Christie but can cover either winger That leaves Cogley who does not take set pieces or provide cover. It is a numbers/money call to thin the squad and Cogley seems to be the one at right back. Quote

I've been as critical of us as anyone, but someone in that defence has to be good. Its a strange one, I rate the CBs and Conway (fair to middling at RB) and at home we rarely look like conceding unless its a balls up by the keeper or a pen, or a deflection or a consolation. But away we haven't kept a clean sheet against 11 men since Wigan in April. 3 more chances this month but its hard to be optimistic. Its difficult to regard us as having "the 2nd best defence in the league" when other teams can go away and get a clean sheet (even Mansfield or Northampton and they were under the cosh at times) and we can't go anywhere and expect to win without scoring at least 2. Port Vale have kept 3 clean sheets away. It doesn't mean they are better than us clearly, but if we're that good defensively why does every team score against us away. And because we don't score many every goal counts, they aren't consolations, we've only scored twice once and they were both in injury time. Quote
