Werder barmen Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 id have spearing back, but looks like hes got alot of bridges to rebuild if he was to re sign Quote
Traf Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 I'm not a fan of re-signing Spearing, as most will know, but purely for football reasons, he'd a better bet than retaining Jason Lowe, based on recent stats. Quote
JimmyRiddle Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 Seems wherever he goes, he flatters to deceive! He looks the part, works hard, points, shouts, but actually does square root of eff all, then folk cotton on! Blackpool dropped him ffs! sure he’d do a job at this level, but risky for me... Quote

I'd go with that. Like you say, the other stuff still wrankles, but he no doubt could do a job. Not so sure it's on the cards though. Quote
Blondi Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 Can't see Spearing coming back, probably the usual twits on twitter. Quote
tomski Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 We seem as a club obsessed with re signing players (fan base included) admittedly not on this thread. Id only want clough back as I think he’d be head and shoulders above at this level in a footballing team more so than being an ex player. Saying all that if Evatt and TP think Spearing can do a job then I’m happy to go with them providing we don’t just think of it as a sentimental move. Quote

Agree but I'd still probably have anelka too 🙂 Quote

Roger_Dubuis Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 I wouldn't want Spearing either but was very happy to sign Doyle. It's a bit daft really because Spearing is at least a proven 3rd tier player and Doyle isn't. Quote

We do but I think it's amplified this time because people have no clue about players at this level, so just jump on any name that's familiar. Anyway, I wouldn't want Spearing because, while he could no doubt to a job, we'd likely have to pay him a lot to do it, and I'm unconvinced that we can't find another player to do as good a job on half his wage. Blondi Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 Can anyone remember the Spearing situation when he last played for us? Didn't Sweaty Ken offer him a new deal and then Sweaty fooked the offer off and then Spearing fooked us off and then he ended up at the Donkey lashers and it backfired? Quote
masi 51 Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 I read somewhere that liverpool offered him a coaching role...Obviously he would get nowhere near Liverpools 2nd eleven Maybe a player coach role here Quote

I trust Evatt to do what's right, until such time that he proves himself not to be the manager we think he is. We cant get a manager in that we all want then say "hope we don't sign him", we back his decisions and judgement. Whoever Evatt picks to start each game, will be there because they are the best players and characters willing and available to sign within budget. I'll change my mind when starts playing Doyle on the left wing, Politic at wing back and picks his favourites week after week irrespective of form. Quote
Eddie Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 It’s clear that he didn’t leave on great terms and there is still ill feeling, but anyone that doesn’t think Spearing wouldn’t be one of the best midfielders in the 4th tier of English football must be joking. I’m not fussed if we get him or not but if we’ve put an offer on the table that we think is the right money and Evatt thinks he works in his new system then I’d be glad to see Spearing back if he accepts - nothing to do with him previously playing for us, just think that he could look very good in this league in the right system and under the right man. BWFC_LOVE Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 I too am genuinely shocked by the disinterest in Spearing. He’s never recreated the form of his initial loan spell, but he’d surely be a revelation at this level. I think he’s streets ahead of Lowe. Would be delighted to have him back personally. Quote
radcliffe white Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 Can we just move on fresh start and all that Quote
Leyther_Matt Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 Lowe by a mile for me. Although if Spearing was available at the right price wage-wise then at 31 he’ll certainly still do a job in League Two. Quote
Steejay Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 We should move on from them both. They had their chance and both did just ok. We want players that want to move the ball forward rather than sideways at best. Quote
radcliffe white Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 Apart from a few penalties and loads of finger pointing spearing won’t offer much more Quote

Can be a tidy player on his day, but we need to move on, if it was a straightforward choice between him and Lowe, its Lowe all day for me, that lad showed some loyalty at the beginning of last season, i doubt Spearing would have showed the same. Like I say I'll trust Evatt, but I would also rate Lowe above Spearing, although he does tick the on field "captain" box better than Lowe (Lowe a great club captain and ambassador). Lowe underrated for me, Spearing 2020 vintage probably overrated. I was expecting better of him when we played them at home, passing and free kicks were very average and didn't get around as much as Lowe does. Has got more of a goal in him than Lowe though. Then again so have I and I've not played for 20 years. Quote

Not a world beater but keeps it well enough. Under Evatt I’m expecting us to have the ball more than the opposition so it could work. Quote
