They didn’t allow 13 year old firemen then. I don’t think they do now either.

Ha ha, been to some fire ridden houses in my past and the smoke damage they cause through carelessness.

Doors most definitely save lives but only if they’re shut.

A working smoke alarm helps too.

I've noticed down the years it was always poor housing what got the brunt of house fires, I would never have a chip pan near my house after seeing some of the danger it wracked through a home.

I used to post a video of a Christmas tree setting on fire and engulfing the whole room within about 30 seconds. I wouldn’t have a real tree in my house.

One of the worst fires I ever attended was Boxing Day morning. Mum and baby still in bed, two kids downstairs watching telly and dad nipped out for a paper. One fairy light short circuit later and the two lads burned to death. Mum and baby were rescued and dad walked round corner to see three fire engines outside his house.

No idea what this has to do wit’ virus though.

I as a teenager used to love buying a half with my last money and walking home instead of chippy and taxi - then make real chips in a chip pan - I only passed out about 50% of the time. Result - burnt chips and just bread and butter when I woke up.

Wasn't in Bury around 86 by any chance was it Mick ? Worked in a street shortly after and a tragic fire had happened on the street, just off the road to Fairfield Hospital

How can all these individual EU countries be allowed to shut their borders to Brits? Their EU membership means they don't have any sovereignty, so surely it shouldn't be possible?

Christmas Day 84 at Massey Street. 4 kids amongst the 9 killed. It was before my time by 18months.

Thankfully we pretty much all have low voltage LED lights, much less risk than the shite we used to happily hang on our plastic or real trees

Captain facts is back. Time for bed 😴

Is that all it takes for you to log off and go to bed? Me asking a simple question?

So if this new strain is weak as piss why is everybody in a blind panic?

Thought the big deal was to stop hospitals getting overloaded?

First proper mention of the new strain was this week, yet it’s been about for ages hasn't it? (September anyway)

I think the government might have overplayed the ‘new strain’ talk in order to save face over cancelling Xmas (after being so bold at PMQ’s 48 hours earlier!

Now the borders are shut it’s backfired big style (if my suspicions are correct)

Is it weak as piss? Not seen that suggested anywhere, but hope that’s the case, because it’s going to be fucking rank down the shops later

Is it a "weaker" variant? I've not heard that reported as of yet

Worrying thread

What's worrying to me is that by talking in codes they're excluding damn near 100% of the world from any information they're putting out.

B.1.1.7? I don't recognise that.  Fortunately they also put that it was aka VUI-202012-01.

Oh THAT strain! Thank fuck it wasn't B.1.1.9 (aka VUI-202016-08) because that really is a nasty bastard!

PMQs showed him up for the lying shit he is. Huge surprise.

Boris looked like a haunted potato at that last press conference.

I’m expecting him to quit fairly soon. Throw his hands in the air, say “well I’ve had it and I’ve got pots of cash so fuck you, see if I care. Gove, you’re up”

My exact thoughts too.
