supermarkets are going to be horrendous tomorrow, give it 2 days and they'll be videos on social media of mass brawls

We logged onto Ocado as soon as Boris started. Said we were 100 in the queue. Then it booted us off for some reason. Logged in again and we were 18,000 in the queue!!

Thats not what he said

Not our fault BBC reporter is a dick

It is open to interpretation.

I took immediately as work being essential.

But they specifically said shops are shutting did not mention any other businesses. Sturgeon was clearer.

the building sites will still be full tomorrow

As will the London tubes

Full lockdown will be announced soon enough, as soon as they have sorted out what to do with the millions of self employed

That’s the hardest one to throw money at, you can’t let them just claim what they want with no proof, they would all just claim the £2.5k a month that’s the maximum available on PAYE. The only way I can see is it working is basing it on prior year self assessment but then your letting plenty slip through the net who only started this year. Tough to please everyone I suppose

Get those lot sorted, then full lockdown 6 months

Whoever said it's not lockdown version 1.0 it's social distancing version 2.0 is bang on.

Kind of feels like the government is saying "look stop being dicks will you". But it's left employment in utter chaos.

Bbc and govt twitter aint helping

Only if absolutely necessary, it isnt, so you can’t.

I can. It isn't. It wasn't spoken as being essential work only. The BBC initially said it was on their ticker. But then removed it from their article.

I'll carry on until its official thanks.

Self employed submit accounts. If they have declared £30k income in last year put on the £2500 per month.

This is a post from a local (to me) community facebook group.

I get that as it's his/her interpretation.

In case anyone missed it here's a breakdown: *What was just announced?*

23.03.2020

UK PM Boris Johnson has just announced a major ramping up of coronavirus measures.

Here are the major points of his speech:

From tonight, people in Britain will be allowed to leave their homes for only “very limited purposes” -

shopping for basic necessities; for one form of exercise a day; for any medical need; and to travel to and from work when “absolutely necessary”

People are warned not to meet friends or family members who they do not live with

Shopping is only permitted for essentials like food and medicine, and people are advised to do it “as little as you can”

*Police have powers to enforce the rules, including through fines and dispersing gatherings*

All shops selling non-essential goods, such as clothing and electronic stores, are ordered to close

Libraries, playgrounds, outdoor gyms and places of worship are to close

All gatherings of more than two people in public - excluding people you live with - are banned

All social events, including weddings and baptisms are banned

Funerals are not included in the new restrictions

Parks will remain open for exercise but gatherings will be dispersed

Restrictions “under constant review” and will be checked again in three weeks.

They will be relaxed “if the evidence shows we are able to”

It doesn't say travel to and from necessary work, it says travel to and from work.

It’s on government website. But you know, we can’t criticise the messaging or the shambolic nature of this...and as people claim the message is always really clear....ooops.

I’d be fine with that

Just a long time since last self assessment, plenty new self employed will drop through the cracks

Should work for the majority though

It says you should not travel to work unless it is absolutely necessary and you can not work from home.

I interpret that that it means to job is absolutely necessary. But it is not clear.

I took it to mean don't travel if you can work from home.

There was no mention of "essential work" like their was wrt kids at school.

The transport system is still running to take folk to work.

Despite captain know all saying otherwise, other nations initially allowed folk to go to work during lockdown. Whether that was restricted to essential jobs later is a different matter.
