Watched a Europa cup game on tv which was behind closed doors just before it all broke out (wolves or arsenal I think)

it was dire players/coaches shouting and it echoing around the ground

Yes I'm a football on TV obsessive, and even I wouldnt be watching it, unless it was maybe a title decider or cup final.  TV football, and sport generally, is nothing without a crowd.  I'd rather watch a game in the park and feel part of it than observe a glorified training session of teams I dont support.

You’re at nearly 50 with just the players

Coaches/fitness/medical teams 50

TV and rigging staff I’d guess at around 40 for a sky televised game

Media 20

Necessary stadium staff is a decent amount even in an empty stadium but bare essentials It’ll have to be like a military operation. Then do you have to test  everyone in the stadium beforehand?

Sky will want it to get their moneys worth. PL will want it because of money and legal issues.

Edervisie doesn’t count but if a major European league shuts up shop that’ll be it.

They seem to have glossed over letting the Madrid Liverpool game go ahead. They need to be careful.

There was a good discussion on 5 live last night with Mark Chapman, Ian Wright etc.  Wright was very passionate saying he cant believe they are even having the behind closed doors discussion, its completely impracticable, and I agree.  Are they expecting even the club physios and Dr's to get holed up in a hotel for 2 months to get it done?  Because they cant go back to their families between games in case they are carrying the virus. How can hundreds and hundreds of people jump the queue to be tested before essential workers? So many arguments against it, it beggars belief that's its being considered.

Its the greed of the clubs in the Premier League and the few who fear they could have got promoted and have it taken away from them (the latter I do have some sympathy for) but the fact is we will not have spectator sport until much later in the year or even later and the clubs who depend on gate money to keep afloat - that's why the EFL have been irresponsible for not making a decision yet

Also they need to be telling UEFA what their intentions are which means UEFA have to sign it off, Also UEFA aren’t giving up the CL and the Europa league, big money spinners for them so how do teams fly to venues?

Only way that you do it is on one big sporting island, Mortal Kombat style

In the end the PL and EFL can just put a few different options to their members to vote on.  If the PL have a majority vote in favour of voiding the current season and no relegation or promotion, then legally would Liverpool, Leeds etc have a leg to stand on?

Presuming, of course, that there is some provision in the rules to go with a vote in unprecedented or unforeseen circumstances.

Ligue 1 has been potted. That is big.

Has it been announced then? Mail on line said the Government was going to say no games even behind closed doors before August

Yeah on the BBC not even behind closed doors before September

It seems to have been a decision made by politicians in France, not the football authorities, & that it will be next month before they decide if there will be any promotions or relegations.

I'm taking it as a good sign , the more leagues that get voided, ( Holland & France so far ) the more chance there is for us.

If the season does get voided - and by fuck I could do with that to cheer me up - I assume we’d start with the deduction next season?

Personally, would have no complaints with that.

But staying up and the scousers getting nowt but a collective hernia would be the silver lining we all need right now

Its just a matter of time before our league gets potted.  They are all pretending this behind closed doors thing could work, it might work in tennis with 2 players and an umpire, but PL football "behind closed doors" is a gathering of 200+ people, so its the equivalent of allowing Atherton LR or Daisy Hill to play in front of a crowd.  Especially when you add on the fact that the fans of PL clubs will be gathering in houses to watch games together, and/or travelling to the grounds to be near the action.  Never going to happen.  No football this year and only next year when we get to a stage where everyone can be tested and/or there's a vaccine.

I'm assuming not

It really isn't.

And while rudy is more involved than us, I'm not having 200 needed. This is about running it on minimum numbers and that doesn't need loads of media, fitness bods etc. Maybe even less cameras than normal.

Either way, it's utter bollocks to be playing

We have said about 100 are required.

I'm sure I have seen 322 quoted for Bundesliga matches.

Official number is 216 for a Prem game none Televised

236 Live televised Game (Extra studio staff)

242 CL league game (Multiple studio staff, UEFA  reps, officials)

So off a zoom meeting this is what City’s rep will present to the PL & UEFA this week.

Squads of 23, One physio, one doctor. Manager Assistant Manager one head coach. 1 back room staff member.

2 coaches in the stands(Me) .

Media limited to 3.

Sky/Bt Do their studio coverage from elsewhere not the stadium.
Rigging staff a team of 10 but no access to anyone else.
Problem is VAR that takes 4 people to operate inside the stadium.
5 Officials.

A team of Security, Police, Paramedics, Emergency Doctor.
H&S Officer.

Now UEFA/FA say you must have certain people in place with the bigger stadiums which bumps the numbers up. UEFA are saying they can’t change that without changing regulations which must go through the courts, then FIFA. To make the smallest change not in the middle of a pandemic takes about 3 months, if there wasn’t a backlog which there is. Yeah this would take priority but there’s so much bollocks to sort out.

I imagine UEFA/PL/FA/EFL will all just turn a blind eye to certain rules and regulations to get playing football again which is ridiculous but it’s money to them.
They’re also eager to get it going because the longer it goes on the longer it’ll go into next season and the Euros and then the following season and the World Cup being short in December.

Realistically you’re gonna need 120 to run on a match day but that is very stretched, what happens if a player collapses and the only doctor or paramedic team need to attend to a player and then something happens to someone else? It’s an absolute shitstorm.

This is all before players go back home and potentially put themselves at risk of infection if they go out and about.

The easiest solution would be call it a day on all football.

Ligue 1 & the Eredivisie are done. If The Bundesliga; Serie A or La Liga go, The PL will.

FIFA have now got in the act, according to the BBC, and recommending that no football should be played until next season.

We might survive

If FIFA say it, it’ll happen.

Coronavirus and football: Fifa medical chair does not want restart this season

Fifa's chief doctor has warned against restarting the interrupted 2019-20 campaign and suggested governing bodies prepare for action next season instead.

Michel d'Hooghe said "as a doctor" he would be "sceptical" about continuing leagues amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The chair of Fifa's medical committee told BBC Sport: "My proposal is if it is possible, avoid playing competitive football in the coming weeks.

"Try to be prepared for the start of good competition next season."

Is the notion of promoting 2 from the championship (but without PL relegation) still on the table (no pun intended)?

I know Brentford, Bristol etc might feel miffed at missing out on a playoff chance. But then again

(I) if the choice is between totally starting again or those two going up, then it's no skin off their nose

and

(2) that means they don't get two parachute-payment funded teams coming down for next season, whenever that starts. So they start next season (whenever the fuck that will be) with a better chance of promotion (given that most would have missed out this season anyhow).

Would they then find ways to rebalance the other divisions that didn't involve relegation?

I get that there's a lot of money in the PL based in final position etc. But there'd be an awful lot of meaningless games that  - after the initial novelty - nobody will watch, as has already been pointed out. I don't think the nation's souls will be lifted from these dark times by watching Sheffield United v Burnley with no crowd there. In fact people have probably started to question why they pay good money to watch games they don't give a shit about.

Mind you, they could digitally morph in a crowd (remember that thread from a  bit back about real time generation of customised advertising hoardings) and then say press F2 to generate a cheer for your team if you're watching online. Wouldn't put it past them trying that...until it fucked up royally.

One last thought - not practical in the timescale, but I'll say it anyway. Given last years PL total wage bill, if every player in the PL donated one day's (just one day) after tax salary to a pot, that could buy 15 fully equipped ambulances that could be used for behind closed doors games in the Pl and EFL and when its all done and dusted donated to the NHS. I know that can't happen in timescale, but it says summat. Or summat.
