Despite relegation, I loved that season. Felt like we'd really arrived when Beardsley and Elliot signed.

Shame it didn't last long

Remember a mate of mine saying he hopes Elliott didn't get a serious injury or we'd be fucked. Big, daft Mystic Meg prick

Aye.

I remember it well as it was the first time I'd ever left a game before the final whistle.

Was that when they had the brown strip on?

I got home from that match to find the rozzers at our house. Our car had been nicked form Asda car park and used in a petrol station drive away.

Where were you this afternoon sir ?

Where do you think constable ?  In my big coat and scarf and bob hat, programme and ST in pocket, freezing my bollocks off and full of ale ?

Add that to many missed opportunities that season.

Blake missed a 1-on-1 at Blackburn at 2-1 in the last minute. They went down the other end and scored a third.

Blake also missed an open goal at Leicester in a 0-0 draw. Not knocking him, he was great that season (according to my nine year old self that is).

Bob Taylor hit the bar from a yard out against Southampton (who we mullered but couldn’t score) that would’ve given us a win.

These are just off the top of my head. Certainly one nailed on pen that wasn’t given too (Cox & Wimbledon).

I know they say it all evens out, but I used to recite numerous occasions where we missed points because of refereeing decisions/missed chances that season.

Should never have gone down. Wouldn’t change a thing in hindsight for what the next decade brought.

Home to Southampton battered them start to finish and lost 2-0 .

Seem to remember some stat that if the game was 85 minutes long we would have finished mid table and if it was 80 minutes long we would have finished 4th .

That was the first season in Prem at Burnden. Think it was 26 points lost in last 15 mins.

We were relegated at home to Southampton weren’t we that season. 1-0 le tissier?

Also thought it was Reebok we dropped loads of late points

Remember being quite relieved after Southampton game as it felt like being put out of your misery.

2 years later completely different.

Yeah thats right. Not sure where Kimrons 2-0 comes from haha....it was 0-0 at reebok the everton season.

The late points deffo Burnden, if not both.

We had...

Everton home -Rideout 85th ish

Qpr - Danny Dichio 90ish

Colin Cooper twice

Amongst others.

Curcic picked things up for a bit. Beat boro away and then leeds away with black sunday in the middle.

Took the lead in a few games that season, looking back we didn’t do that bad actually

Late points season was definitely burden

Black Sunday was part of a run that actually saw us get 16 from 27 points

We were miles better second half of the season under Todd alone but damage was already done

Chuck in the 98 points season and the last day relegation, we weren't a bad team at all under Todd, and he signed some good players

Aye quite underrated in our history.

What the fuck were we thinking with joint managers by the way. Another 4am kitchen job that.

Said it before but Rioch and Todd weren't far off joint managers

Had a football focus interview on VHS from around the time of the Liverpool FA cup games where they said as much

So when Rioch left the board were looking for some sort of continuity though not sure they had to go with him just because he played with them both at derby as well

Curcic was stunning that season too. Genuinely the most gutted I’ve been at a player leaving. Blake to Blackburn was up there too.

Mad when you think we lost Mcateer and Stubbs had gone in his mind (though from memory he gave a good fist of it)

Sadly we were out of our depth though. I never thought we’d make it back.  Let alone do 11 years on the bounce.

As I recall, Todd wanted the joint manager deal, rather than taking full responsibility.

Reckon his son is easily in the top 3 hardest screw looses weve ever had at the club.

Struggling to think of a madder one tbh.
