Fleetwood played very well last night from the moment we scored our first goal. Two more good but simple goals from us but it was a battle throughout the game and they will surprise a few if they play as good as that again; saying that we looked out of shape in midfield and wing backs not tracking back quickly enough. Wigan is going to be tough but I still feel we have too much for them and should get the points

What began as a cracking game with both sides playing some great team football and showing some decent individual quality went down the pan after about 40 minutes.

Fair play to Fleetwood who matched us for possession and in most aspects of the game apart from the key one - goals.

Scott Brown was right in his post match analysis that the key difference between the teams was ruthlessness in front of goal - who could have imagined that someone would say that about us after last season when we couldn't score for toffee despite tons of possession?

So after our early goal the game was open and we scored/they didn't the whole vibe of the game changed.

The ref lost it by not getting a grip on the shithouse tackling, nudges, off the ball crap from both sides after we scored the third. Johnston could easily have been red carded for them early doors and Vela was clearly wound up, frustrated by the scoreline and on our side, George and Dion in particular were having none of it and both of them were losing the plot by 40 minutes. Not sure if it's an ego thing or not, but at 3 nil up and a derby match to play at the weekend the last thing they should have been doing is getting wound up - situation called for calm heads and professionalism.

It was obvious George and Dion needed to be subbed and at HT I said as much, but we wouldn't have been in that situation if the ref had jumped on the shithousery with a few free kicks and warnings to the players.

I won't argue about the later flood of red and yellow cards - by the laws of the game they appear to be correct - but the ref himself contributed massively to them occurring.

None of it would have happened if the ref had established his authority earlier in the game. I don't know what he was thinking - it's one thing to try to let the game flow but if you don't stamp out dirty tackles, shithousery and general nastiness early doors it's asking for trouble and sure enough trouble arrived.

I think Iles referee performance score of 3/10 is generous - the ref was never in control and ultimately he was responsible for spoiling what began as an excellent display of quality football from two decent teams.

Not good enough from that ref.

@Eddie

glad you highlighted Dacres Cogley.

Wasnt a signing that was too exciting on paper but he’s been class every time I’ve seen him play.
You’re right Bradley always wanted to dribble with the ball a lot. Cogley seems to want to beat a man and get the ball in. And he’s done that with a lot of quality so far. Two assists last night.

Very happy with him as first choice RWB but we defo need some cover for him or he will get burnt out/injured

Not understanding people saying Saturday will be the first big test,  Fleetwood played well last night and on another night could have easily scored 3 or 4.  I dont expect wiggin to be any better than Fleetwood and to much thought is going on previous meetings and probably the pathetic 0-4 at home is at the front of peoples minds.

Agree with this.  They missed some sitters.  Could've easily finished 5-4 to us.

Fleetwood were a decent team, they just got undone down their left three times in that first half and, thankfully, we were absolutely clinical.

I've no sympathy or either Charles or Evatt.

Regarding Charles, he shouldn't have put his hands on the keeper in the first place and he shouldn't have been giving any dissent to the referee - everyone has been told this season there is going to be a big clampdown by refs.

Regarding Evatt, he may well be the first to fall foul of this spurious law, but he should be aware of it.

All this in a game we were 3-0 and cruising.  Crazy.

The ref might well have been a cunt and their players may well have got away with more than ours did, but to use that as some kind of defence would be very childish.

Aye, if the referee is inept and/or a cunt, as we know this one is from last season, you really shouldn't give him further easy  opportunities to prove it

He sent off Dion by mistake for raising his hands

So don't do it again

If Wigan hadn’t had points deducted they’d be 5th and that would dump Fleetwood alongside Cheltenham in the bottom 4.

This alongside Wigan winning away at Derby and iSaturday being their cup final suggests to me it’ll be our sternest test so far.

Never felt as deflated after a convincing win.

Dion & IE’s sending off were farcical and if those are the new “rules” I won’t be sticking around.

Cant tackle, cant speak, cant do fuck all. Taking the emotion out of the game.

He was bad for both teams, not just us.

His total incompetence was summed up with 5 mins injury time when we were all expecting 10+.

Waching the replay of the DC incident, it looks like he was putting his hand on his shoulder as a "well played", then he boots out.. it doesn't look malicious in anyway, but DC has only himself to blame. He's going down too easy, and it worked against him last year, the refs are turning a blind eye to him now.

Agree with all this.

Ref wanted to be star of the show - proper “I got bullied at school vibes”.

Dion put a hand on the keepers shoulder (stupid when on a yellow but keeper just shrugged it off and had a very small kick out at him). Dion shouted to the ref at that point as he ran out behind the keeper - keeper clearly didn’t appreciate being grassed on and then tripped Dion (technically it’s a kick out off the ball and could have been a red to the letter of the law - soft though). Dion goes down and the ref bottles doing anything so just waves play on, Dion keeps moaning to the ref for a few seconds and the ref talks back to him, presumably telling him to shut up. Dion then must say something that the once bullied ref takes offence to and he gives him the second yellow with glee.

Conclusion - Dion is a clown, I’m not sure why Evatt hadn’t already subbed him, the ref got it wrong as he should have stopped the game for the kick out from the keeper, the ref was a cunt.

4th goal - if it was offside then VAR would have been drawing lines for minutes. They looked to be level to me and if it was offside then it would have been a toenail so I’m not sure how the liner has called it.

Think I was most annoyed by conceding in the 94th minute. It means nothing but 4 clean sheets in a row would have been a cracking way for the defence and Baxter to start the season.

I agree with all that.

I was almost level with were Charles and the ref where standing.  If he walks away there is no booking and prob not even a free kick. Ref was  clueless. The freekick but no booking for the Fleetwood lad who did the two footed challenge was a disgraceful decision.

Still 3 points 3 goals and top of the league. Ive had worse Tuesday nights

A win Saturday and it will all be a distant memory.

So watching the sending off again on the extended highlights, the ref gives nothing till Dion is tripped. so very strange to then go back and book him.

However I can just about see that if the ref thought Dion was trying to slow the game down and hence the card but fuck me it is harsh. Not sure how their keeper is not booked for the trip.

Just after the red their right back dives in and no booking, much worse than Charles challenge.

Assume big Dan comes in Saturday but he needs to up his work rate.

To be fair to Big Dan he put a shift in after coming on couple of nice bits of hold up play.

I'd rather have Bod coming in but this is Dan's chance to get the 3rd choice slot.

Was just about to say, he ran his socks off for the 20 minutes he was on the pitch.

That's what Evatt demands from his strikers - which is why JDB and CJ aren't going to start.

And it’s right decision; JDB needs time before we start him again

Big Dan needs to up his work rate? Thought he worked hard last night and was the most workman against Barnsley.

If he starts he needs to do 60-70 minutes, he struggled to get to the tempo we play at last season and has hardly started.

Big Vic looks a different player, hoping Big Dan can also step up.

No idea how I quoted you twice.

A shame that the ref's "performance" overshadowed 3 cracking goals & how well we were playing.....Fleetwood weren't bad but with 11 men on, I never thought they would get back at us.

The ref....clamped down on trivia but missed Fleetwood's persistant fouling & shithousery. Vela should never have reached 80 mins without a booking & how the no26 (Rooney ?? ) didn't get booked for fouling & snidey off the ball stuff is a mystery. I'm not surprised Charles was pissed off with his lack of protection & his sending off for so little had a premeditated feel about it.

Fleetwood....with their owner in GERMANY & pitiful support like last night, should go tits up soon......if so. i'd be after the black bloke up front (Omocher ?? )who was quite useful.

BTW on a slightly separate thing the ref was shit at...

what was everyone guessing for injury time second half ? We were all around the 10 minute mark. Could not believe only 5.

I said 10 last night, 9 subs, all the fannying about with the red cards I was expecting double figures.
