People including Evatt

Im genuinely shocked people think any of our players are awful, but its probably just me

It's definitely not just you. There is not a single "awful" player in our squad.

Williams like Vic and few others are plodding along, we go up they need shipping out

If we don't go up they also need replacing.  We've got a good squad for this league and most players enhance the team when they play, its stretching it to think of ways they improve the team compared to when they don't play.  And I don't care how many games we've won with them in the team, we are better than most teams in this league, of course we've won more than we've lost.

In those wing back positions, Evatt would always argue that Williams and JDC are good at what he sees as priority in their positions, being good on the ball, getting forward, putting crosses in, popping up with a goal. He evidently doesn't place much store in the defensive aspects of the role, as neither of them are up to much and border on a liability against strong, physical wide men.

We're winning a lot more than we're losing (though we've arguably lost a couple too many at this stage) so Evatt will largely feel vindicated, whatever we think.

Aye, may as well just sit back, relax & enjoy the rest of the season - in Evatt we trust an’ all that.

I'm loving this season, arent you? 🙂

Nout like last minute limbs!!

Lovin’ it mate, and obviously there’s lots more to come.

I’ve loved every minute since Sharon & IE came on board.

I found it a bit drab under Parky previously.

Fully deserved three points, we completely controlled the game & got into tons of promising positions just for erratic end product to make it tighter than it should have. Didn't feel like they carried much threat, where as Pompey's Yengi was bang up for it against Santos I thought Lincoln's attackers sh*t themselves against him & mentally checked out early. Thomason's one of them players who will go far just because he's a sponge constantly working on his game to improve, fair play to the lad he has the right attitude & has stepped up this season.

Personally, I want to improve as time goes by, you obviously think muddling along is ok.

Ambition isn’t for everyone.

This is the crux of the matter. Difficult to complain as long as we're winning even though we all have opinions about selections, tactics, subs and players. Maybe some of the comments are justified though? I guess we all want to improve the team and it's not as though we're walking away with the league is it? We're well placed but have loads of teams around us. With Derby and Barnsley having suddenly hit form adding to the complexity, we sort of have to keep winning to stay in the race - and our game in hand is away at Barnsley anyway so the pressure is massive. Working "more often than not" might not be good enough in this competitive league - we've won 14 out of 22 so it could certainly improve - and will need to if we want automatic promotion.

The point about "the Evatt game plan" is that most folk actually do understand it so a lot of the questions raised are about the fact that every opposition team also knows what to expect (and will prepare for it making the job harder) and that Ian appears to be inflexible/dogmatic about the game plan regardless of the game situation or player's in-game performance.

We have to trust him, but sometimes that's difficult so it's fair enough to express concerns and offer opinions.

Williams struggled for a long time before he understood the role Evatt wanted him to play but when he got it he was like a different player for a while, raiding down the left, creating loads and even scoring occasionally.

However I think he's been a victim of his own success. With opposition managers now knowing exactly how we are going to play they set up to stifle and push back our attacking WBs, compressing the game narrower and although JDC has started to come to terms with it, Williams has struggled with the tighter marking and increased defensive responsibility at times. He might yet learn how to adapt - but if he doesn't he'll probably have to go eventually because the system won't change.

I don’t think that’s likely to be correct. We are collecting 2 points a game, which, invariably, is automatic.

We are improving

Unless you haven’t been keeping track of where we are in the league.

paying attention isn’t for everyone I suppose

Massive that. Absolutely massive

When it hit the net I though that this will be a key goal for us in the long run.

We are going up. Probably automatic. These nervous Nelly types will never change. Some of us can step back and see the big picture/general trend. Others can't see past the last five minutes of play. Just accept it and you'll be fine.

Relief when we finally scored turned to joy when I saw Pompey lost and Posh drew - set to push on with Derby sitting on our shoulder like a scabby vulture.

Tight at the top but we're very much in the mix.

Exactly where I hoped we would be at the turn of the year. Hunters rather hunted - well within striking distance.

Big run of positive results to come. The lads who make the aways are in for a hell of a ride.

It is easy to pick faults with players, we are in the third division FFS. The system we play can (as Evatt points out) can be challenged in transition so when wing backs push on it leaves space behind but that is a risk we take. The one area I am uncomfortable with is how we are not capable of adjusting the system but as IE has 100% believe in the system you can see why he sticks.

I just do not get why players have to be labelled as 'shit' when they clearly are not. There will always be ones who will need replacing if we move up a level but they are not shit. We have had shit players in the recent past ( Reiss Greenidge springs to mind). Of the current squad I recall Baxter, Gethin, Santos, Williams, Coxley, Legohead, Sheehan Morley and any forward that is not Charles being called shit on here.

In fact only Dempsey Toal and Charles have escaped the label. Although Charles when he drops deep, Toal v Carlisle and Dempsey when going to prison have had stick.
