gonzo
Either way it is a bit shit we dont have a traditional bona-fide rival like your Blackpool/Preston, Burnley/Blackburns. Wigans the closest we will ever get as for them its only us. Shame really becasue a good derby is everything what ace about proper footy. It is what it is like. See I’ve grown to like that we seem to be well up on peoples lists. Not the number 1 sort of thing but sit in everyone’s top few. I remember there was a survey on this of some degree maybe 90s or 2000s and we seemed to do highly well on irritating many😂

Which means more lost customers. When viewing numbers start dropping in big numbers then advertisers start twitching. It would be remiss of any of them to rest on the laurels. Course But so long as sky are showing football folk are watching And so long as folk as watching the advertiser's will pay Sky would much rather you watch their games on sky than on dodgy Which is why they'll happily knock £x off a month when you say You're leaving But regardless folk are still watching They've just paid £7bn for football Because they'll make more than that back, probably So don't mind me if I think fuck that I'm paying £60 a year instead I don't think anyone will notice I've been doing this since dodgy itv digital boxes in 2000 And the TV deals keep going up in value

Although I know a few Latics fans (naturally given my work history), I only know four through living locally, and even then only one is from Leigh (one Hindley Green, one Tyldesley and one Atherton). When we were at school, it was a running joke that there were more Huddersfield fans there than Latics (and 100% factual too)
Not in Crawley
My other half's grandpa was a big Blackpool fan. Bless her cottons but she grew up in Durham and her holidays were in Blackpool for 5 weeks every year. He was never that bother about Bolton, thought we were a nice sort who they liked to beat, but other than waaay back, really not bothered. Wigan, Backburn and Tranmere for me. We might not have one stand out rival, but there's an edge to quite a few of our derbies - all the Lancashire teams, Wigan etc - and throw in the teams we rarely play eg United, Bury, Oldham. Even throw in a bit of Lancs/Yorkshire rivalry which can be decent fixtures. Some clubs have one big rival (Ipswich/Norwich; Pompey/Southampton etc) but have no other local derbies to break up the monotony of the routine fixtures. Not in Crawley
I like we don't have a 'proper' rival. We stand alone. Both Lancashire and Gtr Manchester- urban and rural. We're better for it. Rather that than round here Crystal Palace trying to make something up with Brighton.

Not in Crawley
Just now, Casino said: I live nearer city, united, rochdale, bury, blackburn and oldham than wigan Its another world They even speak a different language But the ground (and the new estate) is a stones throw. Loads of younger bolton fans are growing up there (like my nephews) and they really don't like Wigan.

Site Supporter MickyD Posted February 22 Site Supporter Share Posted February 22 Throughout my career I occasionally had to work at Wigan Fire Station. In a station of 64 people, I knew one single WAFC fan. Every other who claimed to be a sports fan was rugby, not all Wigan. Apparently a lot to do with “doing what your dad did’. The one football fan was actually a Lithuanian lad who came over here as a schoolboy and obviously got in with the wrong crowd [or more likely, person]
