Based on what exactly?

Attendances primarily.

Big history, Clough factor & Div 1 winners.

Ask 100 people with any football knowledge, who is the biggest club in L1, 90%+ will say Derby County.

Aye I've got them bigger. Not by much but definitely bigger.

In the Sheff Weds and Sunderland bracket for me. One level above us in the big club status pyramid.

By some distance is a bit fanciful.

Probably are bigger for winning the league.

Not even close to us in my life time though

We both deserve to be in division 3 because we are. Chance to readdress come April obvs.

No inferiority complex or lack of respect from me. Get into em Bolton.

Seasons in top flight

Derby 61

Bolton 71

FA cup final appearances

Derby 4

Bolton 7

League cup final appearances

Derby 0

Bolton 2

its all down to opinion but Derby and Bolton are similar to me.

I would take a draw. Hopefully we give Derby a proper game but we do have a habit of not turning up for these types of games.

If we draw at Derby, some fans will probably be OK about it at first.
"We're still in it"
"Still another 7 games to go"
"Derby are sure to drop points at some stage" etc etc

But we'll be still a point behind them then and also behind Posh on GD if they win their game in hand so there will be 3 teams ahead of us - and only 7 games from the end of the regular season.
Pompey are probably too far ahead to be caught - but we'd still have to beat them whilst the others have theoretically easier games.
Posh we can do something about when we play them at their place and we'd still have to beat them.
But we wouldn't be able to lay a glove on Derby - it would be in their hands and out of ours.

There is no doubt in my mind that a draw would suit them far better than it would suit us.
We need to get into the box seat and stay there rather than banking on our rivals dropping points.
Must win.

The Ref is MARC EDWARDS.......21 games this season and 92 yellow cards and one red......on his 12 league one games he has shown 50 yellows.

We're undefeated under this ref:
Morecambe, November 2022 - 1-1. The ref awarded us 2 penalties and both were saved.
Oxford, March 2023 - 3-2 win

Bolton have won 2, drawn 3 and lost 1. 1 penalty awarded for and 1 against.

Us win and Posh and pompey draw is the ideal scenario

yes that would keep posh in the mix but I’d still much rather have 5 going at 2 spots than 4 going for 1 and Pompey be away in the distance

whether we finish as 1st or 2nd I couldn’t really care as long as we’re in those spots

But with Posh, Barnsley, ourselves and Derby still to play Pompey wouldn’t it be better for Pompey to win those, other than ours obviously, to push the others further back. I take your point about 5 or 4 against us but surely if Pompey take points off them all it can only help us?

Depends if your just settling for 2nd I suppose..

many twists and turns yet and I know everyone will be saying the same but we win ours and I think there’s enough results going to go against the others we’ll be very close to the top spot

This is what I was saying the other day.

Two ways of looking at things; let Pompey win them, and take second.

None of us would complain at finishing second.

Completely agree, can't argue with the facts.

Derby do average more supporters but they're a city in the middle of virtually nowhere and we're a town in the north west surrounded by some of the world's biggest football clubs, and yet still average 21,000.

We've spent more seasons in the top flight than them, we've spent more years in the Premier League, we have won more major trophies and also been in Europe much more recently.

I'd personally say us Pompey and Derby are by far the biggest and most successful clubs in the league.

You could give us an edge on the purposes of being a much longer top flight team.

Ironically us and Derby were the first ever league game in English football, where former Wanderer Kenny Davenport scored the first ever goal in the League system.

Hoping for a better result than that day however as we lost 6-3!

Bang on the money.

We've scored more than any other side in the opening 15 minutes this season.

image.thumb.png.6e416e2ea0cb85ce2d462e32a43214a9.png

And Derby have only conceded 4 in the opening half hour.   We are the only side to have scored more than the opposition in every 15 minute segment of the 90!  Not sure what to conclude from that, but interesting stats.

Can you come back with all the injury time stats please!  Stopping it at 90 minutes probably doesn't account for about 10% of each game.  A 90th minute winner never seems as late now as it used to do, without knowing how long was added on.

Well no, bit I and many like the conversation.

Just a bit of fun innit.

Sure we've all got clubs in bands of size in our heads.

I've got us in the West Brom/Stoke/Ipswich/Norwich type section along with probably Leicester/Blackburn/Burnley.

Your Prestons and Blackpools one below and your Derby and Wolves one slightly above us.

aye

personally struggling with Derby as in if who is bigger

they do have league titles and they do average good crowds

but we done more PL than them

I'm calling it a draw, but if I was them I'd say it was them, becuase they won the league and were famous for doing so with Clough

Bob on -  they've got the 2 Nottingham, Mansfield and Burton within a 20 mile radius. No comparison.

We don't make enough of Kenny Davenport's opening goal - the first goal in league football anywhere in the world. Scored in Bolton, for Bolton, by a Boltonian. Nobody can ever beat that record!

Let’s discuss, Do we need new wing backs ?

And I said I’d follow up about our record here.

It’s surely our time, this time? Just like we said twice this season against Blackpool… 😂

I'm only basing this on crowd size, not history, trophies, years in top flight etc.

But all those clubs you say we are level with - we are below them all for crowd size, except Blackburn and Burnley who we are above.  PNE & Blackpool too as you say.

Norwich especially - never have a spare seat whatever division they are in, and WBA, Stoke, Ipswich, Leicester have always had bigger crowds than us in my time unless we've been top flight and they haven't.

Derby and Wolves the same.  The 2 Sheffield clubs in same bracket.

No shame in that.

Is it not all a bit pointless when so many teams fill their grounds but are hampered by the stadium's capacity?
