I feel like Evatt and his team have shat it after the Wembley debacle. There was no need to change formation in my opinion. It was key players being out injured that fucked us. The weak mindset thing played a part of course, but I reckon we'd have finished in the top 2 if Baxter, Rico, and Dion had stayed fit.

Nailed it. For all people criticise him for being stubborn, he’s been the opposite of stubborn here. The only reason we didn’t get promoted was a raft of injuries to key players all at the same time. This season just needed to be about improving the strength in depth, adding one or two fresh ‘first team’ faces and kicking on. Forino, Mcatee and a returning Johnstone would have seen to that.

Evatt has to live or die by his formation change. He can’t go back on it now.

I really hope it works out. That squad is a top 3 squad in this league.

Two things I’ll add, at the risk of opening a can of worms.

Two players were talking freely, openly and loudly next to me in the gym yesterday morning about their dislike of the new set up. I’ll not name them but they were also unhappy with the lack of effort shown by one of their (substituted) colleagues during Saturdays game. It’s not a good look. And I hope they were an isolated case.

Secondly, the team were in the next train carriage to me on Saturdays train home. Whoever at the club thought it was a good idea to land them back in Wigan station at 10pm on a Saturday needs to have a think. They were hassled and provoked by a small ish number of Wigan fans down the platform and out into the car park. They didn’t react but was uncomfortable to watch. Send them to Manchester or Preston surely!

I can't agree we didn't go up solely because of injuries. Every team has them, Pompey and Derby had them and coped better.

It's just a weak excuse when really we were consistent all season whoever was in our line up - beat the weak teams, struggle against the better teams and "big" matches, especially away.

Something had to change to get us to make the next step, but this formation change seems a backward step if anything.

Well he’s got a chance not to be stubborn Tuesday and go back to 5-3-2, but I think we all know he’ll continue with the 3 “forwards”

I don’t think he even needs to feel he has to stick with it because this is now his way that has to work. He actually said pre-season that it’s just another way that we’ll use in some games, he doesn’t have to use it all the time!

As for the sub player’s lack of effort, I can only assume Vic, being the player most likely to be off/discontented with things at the moment.

All the others were newbies weren’t they with something to prove? Tutu, Matete, Arfield

Oh and Dempsey but he was pretty lively when he came on.

Yeah it’s just the easy excuse injuries they certainly didn’t help but people forget we gave silly points away with those key players playing, and what about last month or so of the season we won something like 3 in 8 including play offs

Won’t happen.

You know it, I know it.

Never in a million years.

We've spent all summer recruiting for 5-1-1-2-1

It's thinner than Bobby Sands cock.

I can't say the result is surprising, we weren't actually much worse than against Wrexham, just Charlton are a better side.

Evatt, for many of the fan base, won't have much good will this year. One or two more results like that in the next 7 and pressure will be well and truly on and we know our place isn't nice once the tide turns. Gets toxic, quickly.

Just this.

Time will tell if we can improve.

Vic had to start instead of Charles

How the hell are we casually accepting Charlton are a better side than us?

Obviously the result says it but have they spent millions in summer something?

I wasn't, they aren't, I was saying they're a better side than Wrexham. We just played similarly in both games.

Did no one else get injuries? It’s a bit of a myth this hard luck story.

Needs to get promoted in top 2. Nope

Needs to win the play off as we will never have a better chance. Nope.

Needs to get off to a fast start. Nope.

Then we are suggesting he is actually the opposite of stubborn?

He literally made the same changes for Charlton that didn’t work against Wrexham.

The form guide since NYD is concerning and batting it off as injuries only is well off the mark in my opinion.

They contributed but also did

our disciplinary record, captain clumsy getting red carded twice a midfielder who picked up a stupid amount of yellows

poor use of substitutes, never forget reading away needing a goal and he brings Dan & Jerome on

santos gets injured in warm up at blackpool in cup he plays him gets carded and goes off injured at h/t

3 opposition managers coming out and identifying how they managed against us which was so bloody simple & obvious

Anyway it’s bank holiday chill😀

just try 4/4/ fucking 2

Said that after the have on Saturday but for evatt it’s probably to old school . Collins played on the wing  at Bristol rovers the season we bought him so we have the players to do it . May be when Phil brown gets put in temporary charge we will see it 😂

I'm with ya.

I'm nowhere near evatt out but are we saying he's holding us back with this group of players?

I read "substituted" as brought off, not brought on. Would mean Charles, JDC, Sheehan, Tomo, or Johnston.

One who was subbed off he wrote.

So from Sheehan, Dacers-C, Charles or Thomason. Only one realistic option from them.

Poor do players spouting in a venue with other people around mind.

Only because he overthinks and overcomplicates things.

As @Cheese has said a couple of times, don't really need to rip up last year's formula. We were really 2 wins away from going up 2 ways last.

(Beat Derby away and we finish 2nd).

Obviously the playoff debacle made him think he needed to change things up.

Think we'll end up back in 3-5-2, 5-3-2 before long.

And that should be fine.
