Was in Bury on Tuesday morning at 9:50am and there was 2 blokes engaged in fisticuffs opposite the ELR station on Bolton St.

Bury has far more scuzzers than b town going off when I used to work there last year

Wasn't there a US craze 15 years ago when this was actually done and then filmed? Might be wrong but seem to recall the DVD called "Bum-fights" was banned in the UK.

As I've said previously town centres evolve. Look back at Bolton town centre 100 years ago or even 50, it will look completely different with different shops

I wonder how many folk think back to its 'heyday' in the 90s now buy their music online or shopping as well

Times change and the simple fact is Bolton didn't. Part of that is its sheer size and the problem that the bits people do want to visit now is at the opposite side of town to the train station.

so the town centre we all agree should be made smaller

a perfect example of the council not managing this properly is the market

they spend millions on renovating it a few years back

but the bus station next to it is being demolished and we assume being sold to a developer

why not relocate the market and sell the whole bigger site?

I haven't done any Christmas shopping online, I haven't spent anything in Bolton, House of Fraser, Disney Store, Smiggle etc. in Manchester.

That's funny, could have sworn that I saw you and Gonzo walking out of Anne Summers with a couple of carrier bags each.

Who owns the shops? Most usually private landlords

What are the council expected to do? You can turn harrords into a pound shop. No need to apply for planning permission from the council

Then where would we put the market?

Part of it was to be a multi storey car park meaning the land out the back of Victoria Hall could be developed by Tesco and a few others, the rest was being used to expand the market.

No idea of the plans now.

I dunno. Bow St car park site would be better, closer to the rest of the retail too. Isn't that being converted to some kind of market too?

Half of Bradshawgate is a mess, the Wayne Walker site was empty for ages. The place opposite is that still unused? Old motorbike megastore.

Big decisions should have been made 10-15 years ago. It's clear the town centre is too big but the council seemingly have no strategy and are not up to managing the evolution.

I thought of all those, Bow Street area best place if they knock down the car park.
