In conclusion, nobody has a clue what Schuey is thinking and therefore speculating wildly about players.

Sounds about right for this stage of the game.

We can draw a lot from his end of season comments and the flurry of singings.

Plus the Collins stuff.

He's building a unit. No more fannies.

There are two obvious reasons why Toal might go:

He is one of the few players we could make a profit on seeing as we bought him for peanuts and he’s developed into a full international whilst with us and…

He might want a move himself as he isn’t on a particularly high wage.

But there are many more reasons why we should keep him though including ability, physique, commitment/effort and leadership.

Not top level, but still a very good level and despite unfortunate injuries, a solid and committed squad player with absolutely the right attitude that we need.

Put it this way….if Taylor gets injured I wouldn’t be overly worried about a fit and rested Toal replacing him for a while.

Same with Forrester. Versatile and 100% committed to the cause.

Yes Forrester really wants to win and shows great commitment, although I have a feeling that Inwood will play a greater part than we all think, he looked really good in the first team. There will probably some players who will leave where we can't understand why, but SS seems to want to clear the decks and instil his own philosophy on the team, which seems to be based around pace, power and strength, something which we have been sadly lacking.

Agreed, but if he starts next season the way he finished the last, with 8 losses from 10, he won't get the chance.

Reading between the lines I think plenty gave up once they realised they wouldn't be in his plans.

Mystery injuries and stupid silly mistakes/lack of concentration allude to that also.

They gave up and I think he did trying to figure the benders out.

His attitude (or perceived attitude) goes against him. It’s very un-Bolton.

He carries himself like a billy big bollocks, plays like he’s the best player in the league and so far he’s done very little to justify it.

We like grafters, humble to an extent and ones that will run through brick walls. Egos are accepted when there’s something to back it up and they’ve proven themselves in a Bolton shirt.

So far, he’s turned up for a relatively big fee (not his fault but increases expectations), been part of a poor team that has failed over and over, tries tricks and flicks that rarely come off, does a fake jump for every header, prances about with his socks round his ankles, throws his arms about when it’s usually him that’s lost the ball again, and just generally comes across as a bit of a prick.

His actual output of goals and assists isn’t too bad (it’s hardly setting the world alight) - we just don’t like pricks, unless they’re our pricks, and so far he’s not our prick.

Couldn’t have put it better myself. Bravo

This is spot on.

Yeah, much like last season we need a good start

A few defeats early on and the doubters will be out

Ok fair enough. But what annoys me is some players get the "trying hard pass" for effort and others don't. Schon being a very good example of someone with very little end product, but because he jumps in the crowd after someone has scored, or runs around a bit, people can overlook the fact that he's weak as piss , small and can't kick with his right foot and barely does anything of note. Last seasons Thomasson was nowhere near the standard of the previous year, but he gets the trying hard pass too.

I'm not interested in what happens off the field. I don't care how low you wear your socks. Mcatee ain't a number 9. He's better playing off someone. 12/13 league goals is good return given how last season went. With a proper striker to play off, him/Randall/Collins (whoever is here/plays) will be better off.

That's a good summary to be fair, his inability to challenge for a header is particularly puzzling for me.

But for a bit of balance:

Sometimes he does fancy flicks because he can - some do come off, but they tend to get ignored and classed as being a fancy dan.  I quite like having a player that has that arrogance, we wouldn't get Vic or Dan trying fancy flicks because they can't.

I don't care about the socks - who does?

When we're struggling for a goal, I usually think he's one of those busting a gut to put it right, he wants to win, he wants to create and score.  Having the ability is a different thing, but I've never really thought he's gone missing, whereas Collins, Tutu and Sheehan can all be accused of disappearing from view at various stages, especially away.  I think McAtee gets a bad press on that front, he always wants to be involved.

Statistically, nobody can come on here and say its madness to sell our top scorer (12 goals) whilst wanting to get rid of our 2nd top scorer (11 goals, less starts).  I've no problem with both of them going if we bring in better but I still don't get the chasm in opinion between the 2 players, both are half decent whilst being very replaceable with something more pacey and physical.

Saved me a load of typing. Spot on. He was indulged by Evatt. Pretty sure SS won't be doing.

I agree on both your players who get the opposite treatment and it pisses me off too. It’s a separate point to how McAtee comes across though.

He'd do better not to turn up for games pissed though. At least twice apparently.

For me, McAtee and Collins, at least for the vast bulk of the season, were the two that got the biggest passes from sections of our crowd, not 'try hard' passes, more 'baller' passes from the younger element who were taken in by their socks down skills, a few 'moments' and were able to easily come up with catchy songs about them.

I'd made my mind up about McAtee before Xmas and saw zero after to change it

Yep this Chelsea lad will be expected by SS, himself and Chelsea to be starting every league game. Southwood will be Cup keeper and back up, unless this lad turns out to be a Billy Crellin rather than a James Trafford.

Don't think TSL will be good enough to start Trafford was England under 21 goalkeeper at the time we had him TSL isnt

Played 46 times for Doncaster last season I'd say he's expected to be number 1

So you think Southwood will be number 1 and TSL will be number 2 at the start of next season?

I thought Southwood did well enough to oust Baxter as number one earlier in the season

but he got SS ditched him towards the end of the season, so will be surprised if a lad on loan from Chelsea who played every game last season isn't being brought in as the #1

He had to be indulged by Evatt having spunked a million quid on him.

Apparently.

Tbf, the lad has scored some good goals, but beyond that he offers nothing for me.

I can't get past the weird non heading thing, I just don't get it.

Try, ffs man.

It was a bit sudden that- did Baxter's return coincide with his statement about living it at Bolton?

I also wonder if it was an example of putting a player into the shop window?

Whatever the case, we'll find out in the not too distant future.

Barry Fry reckons 26 clubs are in for him

Peterborough will be determined to get some serious coin for him since the other lad (Jones?) went to the Bundesliga for nowt. They've a good record tbf at getting maximum value for their players. Bet they still can't believe what we shelled out for Randall though.
