The other two are younger and have longer contracts. Wherever he plays, he will still be targeted, and there is only so much protection others can be expected to offer. Once a player starts shitting out of tackles, and that results in conceding goals, then they can go. He has had his day for me, and epitomises the Evatt failings. If the squad is being reduced, sell him whilst we can, get a bit for him and invest his wages into areas that need strengthening- another striker or two.  Itâs a fair and valid point, be interesting to see Schumacherâs call on Sheehan. Quote

tomski Posted June 22, 2025 Posted June 22, 2025 Sheehan sits in the happy either way camp for me. If we sell and replace good. If Schuey thinks he can do a job for us good. Heâs talented and if we can stop the style of play all going through him, then I reckon he wonât be targeted as much (resource needed elsewhere) then this could be great. Quote

Popular Post gonzo Posted June 22, 2025 Popular Post Posted June 22, 2025 Under the previous regime/system any managers first instruction is to get stuck in to Sheehan. He gets kicked out of the game. Normally it's because he's coming deep and receiving a suicide ball from 5 yards facing his own goal. Folk say he goes missing in big games, that variably means the opposition have done a job on him and we never thought of a way to counteract that. Quote
Take Hunt Off Posted June 22, 2025 Posted June 22, 2025 Iâm pretty neutral on Sheehan , but Gonzo makes a good point .Under Evattâs tactical myopia he was always exposed.Might be that SS has a different role for him less water carrying more incisional ? Quote

kent_white Posted June 22, 2025 Posted June 22, 2025 Best game I've seen Sheehan in was vs Luton at home when it wasn't blood and thunder and he had some space to play. Quote
Dr. Feelgood Posted June 22, 2025 Posted June 22, 2025 We lost 8 of the last q 20. Tje final 4 became dead rubber the others were not at the time & a modicum of performance would have meant the last ones weren't either. And, whilst under contract I expect players to put a shift in. Did we get any money back ? Cheaper food & drink ? Discount for next season ? Quote
Eddie Posted June 22, 2025 Posted June 22, 2025 Iâd love to see Sheehan in a faster team and with proper wingers to pick out as an option. Iâm not saying I definitely want him to stay, he is part of the soft underbelly of the old regime, thereâs no doubt about that, but heâs very good at that diagonal ball over a full back and I think heâs been restricted in getting the ball moving by our lack of pace and general lack of movement from our frankly shit front line last season. Anyway, whatever will be will be. SS is saying all the right things about what he wants his side to be. If he thinks that Sheehan or GT work well in achieving it then great, Iâm looking forward to seeing it. Quote
bwfc4ife Posted June 22, 2025 Posted June 22, 2025 Could the reason he gets âclatteredâ be that he Fannyâs around too long inviting the challenge? I wish his passing was quicker and more often forwards as opposed to sideways/backwards Quote

I saw it differently to that generally. Not saying he never "buys" a free kick - every attacking player does that don't they? Tutu, Schon, Collins, Charles etc. Tomo's method is to fall randomly to the ground and pick the ball up with both hands (bizarre he's never been booked for that). Its not about getting "properly clattered", its the cumulative effect of a lot of fouls on him, they aren't going to make a list of all time worst fouls but definitely plenty are "robust". Think you are seeing issues where really none lay......As someone attending games at the backend of the season do you really want to watch players who have no future in the club stroll around and not put a shift in.....Or do you want to see two or three kids thrown in and run all day trying 100%  I can't think of many examples of players not putting a proper shift in, but I must admit I thought that of Lolos in the last home game. Clearly out of favour, but given a start because we were down to the bare bones, played out of position on the wing, his heart wasn't in it. That wasn't the player I'd watched in the rest of the season, when his ability may be questioned but not his application. Quote

Quite possibly so, but I don't see SS (and a great deal of point) on rebuilding a team to get the "very best" out of a 30 year old with one year left on his deal. If we're holding all the team to account for bottling performances, rather than battling ones, then he has to look at himself as much as anyone for me. As above though, putting our opinions on him to one side, if we're assuming one or two of these midfielders are going, to reduce squad size etc, then from a pragmatic point of view, Sheehan would be one of the easier/cheaper ones. Aye agreed. He's part of that weak culture that's blighted us. Nobody is safe for me. He's a good player, up to SS to get the best out of him now. Quote
