Lt. Aldo Raine
If they intend to apply the change in the law retrospectively that will almost certainly be subject to a legal challenge. In which case, the government can't lose - the courts find in their favour and they get to implement the policy, the courts rule against them and it's more grist to the mill for the anti-establishment narrative. Burnden Pies
Scrapping Control Orders in 2012 as they 'infringed human rights' hasn't helped one bit. Thanks for that Cameron (and the other tosser who then scarpered to go work for FB). Same sort of woolly wrong headed bollocks that led May to scrap stop and search. Can't blame Labour for either of these utterly stupid decisions. ALL of this country's liberal elite haven't got an ffn clue.

To be fair, I'd have expected labour to have done the same, but sooner But that's supposition Facts are facts BOOM

Proposals along these lines 10 years or so ago would have been met with outrage from shouty liberals and may have been a vote loser. A listen to the minister yesterday may have been enlightening in some quarters. An explanation that the nature of terrorism is changing all the time and is now different to what it was a decade ago. It's possible that this is in part due to the efforts of security forces. Keep up the good work. As for Alf's point: it's true that these fuckers are just having their release put back, however the minister did say that it won't be automatic any more and they will have to pass evaluation. Obviously still an issue there, and hopefully we'll toughen up in that regard too and keep them locked up indefinitely if not deemed fit to be released. freds dad
It's all very good evaluating them before release but the London Bridge attacker last year had been evaluated and was even attending an event to show how good the system is around changing the mindset of these animals. They will work out how to beat the system and share this knowledge with others. Either a full life sentence in solitary or a bullet to the head for all convicted terrorists with them being given the choice when convicted. A lot of investment supposedly going into the area of psychological evaluation, not convinced myself, but I suppose indeterminate sentences would be considered a step too far at the moment and would have every human rights lawyer licking their lips. May well happen eventually though.
Moon boy
I believe the Chinese are ahead of us on how to deal with problematic Muslims, perhaps a fact finding visit to Xinjiang Province could be a better way forward, or their rehabilitation incorporated into a trade deal

Rose and Crown Hotel in Saffron Walden had a fire on Boxing Day 1969 which led to many hotel and boarding house laws Top Storey Club in Bolton 1961 led to the Licensing Act Lots of incidents create lots of legislation. https://www.firesafe.org.uk/history-of-fire-safety-legislation/ I know this page is peculiar to Fire Safety Law but Public Safety Law will be the same.
