The safest thing for us all to do in terms of avoiding the virus is to stay at home for another few months.

If you accept that we can't do that (and you do), then it's all about balancing risk. You can't wear a mask in a pub or restaurant for hours on end, but it's pretty easy to stick one on for a couple of minutes while you go in a shop.

I don't see what's so hard to understand to be honest, other than the timing. You can't make people wear masks all the time, but you can in certain situations which also carry heightened risk. Something > nothing.

Radio 5live this morning...

Ryanair to Alicante last week.

Everybody wears a mask, gets seated, strapped in - fine.

Then they bring round the drinks trolley, & it's mayhem.

Some folks obviously get the drinks in, masks off etc & the others start kicking off, shouting & swearing.

It's the lack of consistency...& the greedy Ryanair fuckers.

Our warehouse manager was freaking out about 2 weeks ago when 12 million face masks arrived in our warehouse, as he said we'd never get rid of them......he's calmed down a bit as of this morning, and apparently we've just sold 2 million of them already

Will a scarf suffice?

I don't know, I've not read the legislation yet - I'd expect it could/should though

Just watched a bit. I wish he was doing the briefings.

I think they should've done one more hamster test with both wearing masks, would be interesting to see how much further that 15 per cent infection rate came down.

Regardless, I'm really glad that they've finally moved on these and I will be much happier shopping etc if everyone is masked. If we do this I think we drastically reduce the chances of this thing getting a proper grip again and we'll hopefully only have  to deal with isolated outbreaks where track and trace can help nip it in the bud.

The alternative, for anyone who hasn't looked at it yet is outlined here:

Me and my boss met a supplier at a pub yesterday for lunch - on the way in, the bloke behind the bar said "I need a name and a telephone number from just one of you please for track and trace.......to be honest, we're not going to check it, so you can tell me anything you like"

I'm sure he's an exception, but it's amazing he was so dismissive about it

At our local club, you sign in, and smile at the video camera whilst it records the exact time you've entered, when you leave you sign out.....if you forget, it's not a massive problem as you're recorded leaving anyway - if you're not a paid up member, then you're not allowed in full stop

I've got no intention of wearing a mask but if it means I can buy a bottle of wine I'll have to wear one.

Got one from Charles Tyrwhitt whilst in manc today. 8 quid. Same material as their cotton twill shirts.

Posh fucker me.

If you are shopping, even with a one way system, there are still plenty of fucktards going the wrong way and not keeping the distance protocol. It’s the same here in that regard. In a pub you are allocated a table which is distanced at least a meter from the next one, and the barmaid or whatever comes to you to take the order, and (not really sure of the UK) they are wearing a mask. You have a clearly safer environment. Plus, as mentioned before, you can’t wear a mask whilst drinking or eating. If you could, I am pretty sure you would be told to wear one.

GPs have been warned they may be flu vacc ing everybody

They had to order this years flu vacs in January

Even of they had capacity to get everybody vacced, they wouldn't have the vaccs

yet another example of the idiots at the top not checking the practicalities

One thing, supermarkets aren't taking your contact details before entering. Pubs are, which I guess helps level risks up should there be a flare up.

Yeah but if you’ve sat in a pub with a load of randoms in a small confined space all talking and shouting etc and getting more gregarious as they get pushed and then compare that to a supermarket where even before masks they were always seemingly fine.

the fact pubs are asking for contact details is testament to the risk they pose. I see it the opposite way of you
