I'd expect an Ainsworth team to be direct, physical & cynical so pick a team to stand up to that......3 centre backs to face a bombardment, best 2 defensive wing backs, the most physical midfielder , Matete  & 2 upfront since we've nobody capable of playing 1 upfront, so...

      Southwold

Cogley...Toal...Forrester...Johnston...Murphy

Sheehan...Matete...Morley or Randall or Lolos

    Vic        Collins

bring Tutu & Schon on later to have a run at them.

Playing with 12 will def help

Fair points.

Desperado above put out his midfield suggestion and it shit me up.

I reckon SS may get a bit more physically out of some of them, just because of the way he wants us to play, but Morley, Sheehan and Randall in there; well...

Fingers crossed, he's got them working on something.

The only real alternative to bolster the central midfield up is Matete in place of Randall.

A month ago I was advocating this as a means of getting us solid, giving protection to the defence and having the focus on a clean sheet.

So I’d be more than happy to see this.

But my side prediction was more in line with seeing this how SS might approach it; different formation, inverted wingers, 4 proper defenders, one up front with a number 10 play-maker behind.

I can see how SS might consider 4-5-1, without Matete, as a compromise which can keep us solid, but also creative and potent up front.

If Morley and Sheehan are left exposed in a 5-2-3, then I’d probably agree.

But the 2 inverted wide-men next to Morley and Sheehan will also provide more protection in the midfield, so, if he goes with that, I don’t think it has to be considered an approach that gets us shit scared.

Think this will be a tight game. 1-0 either way

If we're counting the cup that would be 4 on the trot.

That would be my prediction too, assuming its 11 v 11 for most of the game, 1st goal wins IMO.

I think SS has been unlucky fixture-wise.  Pre-Christmas Shrewsbury (A) and Orient (H) was a guaranteed 4 points minimum to set us up for tougher tests to come.  Now these join the list of difficult games that could go either way, first of 10 tough games.

I think SS is more likely to play Matete rather than Sheehan as the one further forward

If he plays Matete ahead of Sheehan, serious questions from me.

Pre-match drinks on the banks of the Severn. Shrewsbury is one of the nicer away days.
