Without meaning to sound brutal, you’d be best paying the £2k and not worrying you’ve fucked anything up mate.

None of my business but that’s a decent amount you’ve been left pal, make it easy on yourself.

Sorry for your loss @little whitt Condolences mate

I agree with Spider 👆

£1250+VAT

+ £300 court cost

I would pay it. Leave it to the professionals. They know what they are doing.

Sorry for your loss mate.

Pay the solicitor not worth the hassle if it goes tits up. Assume you will sell the house ?

If so ask the solicitor will they do a price for this and any legal costs on house sale.

Sorry for your loss, it's a horrible time.

I fell out with the solicitors when i went through it, i thought they were sticking in hidden charges, so fired them off ( & complained to the law society 😄 ) & did it myself.

I'm not the sharpest tool but it wasn't that difficult, just time consuming, there's good guidance online, . You basically do a fair bit of form filling & then trail round from one place to another, where I always found the people to be helpful & understanding (& one or two of them, subtly, didn't think much of solicitors.)

It depends on if you've got the time & patience to plod on through it  !!

Client - How much?!

Solicitor - Sorry but that's the price.

Client - But its only a couple of letters and a few phone calls and a couple of forms to fill in....

Solicitor - Then do it yourself.

Client - But I don't know how or where to start...

Solicitor - Yes, well we do!

Sorry for your loss mate. Hit me hard losing my mum. Look after yourself. Sorting the estate out can be relatively easy depending on a few things, dont be daunted by it as most organisations you deal with are very good and have people whose job it is to help the bereaved. Take care fella

Hi mate

sorry for your loss. both of mine gone in the last few years, After my dad died i was Billy big bollocks and tried to do it alone.

Probate took nearly 2 years and the last of my sanity

My mum died early last year and i paid a specialist who worked out numbers and applied for probate , done in a few months !!!!

Company is called Zedra , if you are in the same boat, anyone, ring them , they can take that weight off your shoulders without ripping you off .

Sorry for your loss. It's a bit to get your head round at short notice, from my experience with my dad the money spent on a good solicitor to do it for you is well worth it. I was living in Rochdale at the time and had an excellent specialist solicitor there from a practice I'd used for other things like house buying and my own Will.

Sorry to hear this Little Whitt. Been through this with my mother in law, father in law and uncle over the past few years. It's possible to handle probate yourself but personally I don't think it's worth all the hassle. I'd let the professionals do this for you.

Bloody hell. I'm so sorry to read this mate! Hope you and your family are bearing up.

My advice with probate would be to hang on to some of the money for at least 6 months. Just in case you have an unexpected bill.

I distributed ours straight away and then got a bill for £2000

Sorry to hear of your loss.  You can do it yourself, I did my dad’s which was a little complicated and Mrs T did her mums which was a”small” estate, but as others say you have to put in a fair bit of work.

For the size of your mums estate the price quoted is pretty good tbf, as long as they’re not useless. Others charge a % of the estate.

Should have no problem selling a house in OH, as you say one of the better areas in town.
