Why is a comment from a person involved not acceptable at face value?

There is plenty of evidence; a drop in income to £25000 from massively more- did he make it up? If so, what evidence have you got to prove that?

It is also fact that councils have had their central funding hugely cut. It is perfectly reasonable for them to look into areas to claw back some of that, to help fund local services.

A quid for a couple of hours is extremely cheap, if folk baulk at that then they're not going to be spending much in town anyhow.

Seems more of a political gripe than a realistic assessment.

he seems to be suggesting people are using the scheme to park up and fuck off to Manchester, not sure if there’s evidence for that or if there is, what percentage etc and how do they gather that information?

I thought that NCP pay the council to run the car parks.

And so any takings go to them rather than the council.

The introduction on free weekend parking saw a marked improvement on footfall in the town centre.

Their plan was to make money by selling off the p&d car parks to developers. At one point there was eco friendly Houses going on the one on Chorley street and a Tesco going on the ones in the valley behind Victoria Hall.

Obviously things have changed in the 6yrs since I left

If Atherton were to get the metrolink you're a shoe in for dual mayorship of Radcliffe and Atherton pal!

Trains are wank. Metro is decent but takes ages to travel any sort of distance so would never work as an alternative commute from Bolton IMHO.

A-Town has the V2!

I know the Met rattles along, because they aren't fucking rammed you can phase out and piss about on your phone, next thing you are know you are there. Feels mile more informal, walking up and jumping on rather than the airport style security of the train.

White Lion was on White Lion Brow or Moor Lane surely? The George is Blackhorse Street as well..?

I've heard tales of The New Zealand Chief but it was long gone before I got my drinking spurs and only walked past The Ancient Shepherd as a kid but saw enough deadlegs spilling out to deduce it was rum.

No surprise to see them and The Griffin topping the cheapest drink charts.

There was a discussion about 'spoons vs. Real pubs on here a bit ago - I put a list of 'real pub' criteria, well serving mild is another one...

Only had it a handful of times in my skint and underage drinking years - I'd like to try it again, see if it still tastes like bitter mixed with milky tea - weak and rank.

Pub I worked in as a yoof had mild on and it only got pulled once a week, for one pint. I thought it had gone funny the first time I poured it and the chap said no it’s meant to be like that.

Occasionally he’d have a lambs dark rum for the road.

Very very end of deansgate I could just about understand? But I would have said moor lane also. Used to be my underage venue of choice pre match that in the early 90’s before a pissed up walk to Burnden.

Remember "Shoot" magazine in the 70s?

On the back page they used to do a player profile , likes/dislikes etc;  anyway one week it had Neil Whatmore on, favourite drink,. Tetley Mild.

Same here, & for the town centre, I'd have included the clutch of Sweet Green, Painters & Church, plus B/gate's Trotters, Clarence, Alma & Anchor.

I think the Prince Bill was a Boddington's pub which might be why it had the cheapest bitter.

Spot on mate Prince Bill was Boddies and a fine pint it was back in the day nothing like the stuff they pass off as Boddingtons now was pulled through a strange sort of glass pump sat on the bar, I suspect you and I will have crossed paths in some of those establishments.
