Yeah, most of the defenders at academy level can't match him for strength so will be interesting to see if his tricks work. He stuggles if the defender stands off him. Latrell is more direct, runs at players and gets bounce offs. Much lower centre of gravity than Dave. Still raw. Absolute character in the dressing room too. Proper nice lad, high work rate and dead enthusiastic. Hope he makes it somewhere. I dropped him off at wigan northwestern once on his way back to see his family in london and he was telling me about his family in Jamaica, they live in countryside by the sea. Quote

His totals in National League and L2 speak for themselves but in his two career spells in L1 he's accumulated 6 in 46 games. I'm not saying Mullins would be the answer, but my guess is we've only two players in the squad who've got anywhere near 20 career goals in L1/above. And people think they're both fucking shite (one of them is shite, and injured until Christmas). Need some goals coming in from somewhere. Super Sam has 2 in 50 in L2. Quote

Rival Son Posted June 25, 2025 Posted June 25, 2025 We do not give a two year contract to a 22 year old who’s not in plans. An 18 year old: yes. Quote

It's different for goalkeepers as they don't count towards the squad limit and he'll also be on buttons But Hutch - bar one cup appearance an one match on an emergency loan where he didn't really give a good account of himself - has played no higher than the sixth tier What he needs for his development is time on the pitch rather than time spent sat watching our first choice every Saturday Quote
passmosster Posted June 25, 2025 Posted June 25, 2025 Do you think Bristol Rovers will pay Southwood £8000 a week for the year left on his Bolton contract? We may have to pay him to go. Suspetc Collins went away with a few fivers in his boots too. Quote

All stemmed from a blatant bullshit screenshot of supposed wages, which put Southwood as one of our highest earners. Not a chance is he on that. Quote

Is he as one footed as he looks on the internet clips? Internet is all I’ve seen of him but I can’t see him making it here from that alone. Is he a Ricardo referral? Quote
Whitesince63 Posted June 26, 2025 Posted June 26, 2025 Another good looking striker signing for the pies, Dara Costello from Burnley for a reputed £500k. With Mullins and Saydee they could have a very potent forward line this season and with the Donkeys signing Ennis we’re getting left behind. I’m sure SS has signings up his sleeve we need at least another one quality striker to partner Dalby because I’ve no great faith in any of our others. Quote

Bloody hell, season doesn't start for almost 2 months, and the window shuts beyond that. No way would we have cleared out Collins without irons in the fire. No rumours doesn't mean no action. We know we need strikers, and I'm pretty sure the recruitment guys all know this too. If we go into the season with no change then maybe there will be some concern, but for now, why bother? Maybe we've set our sights higher than the Wigan signings, so they're not relevant to our business. Quote

I worried because Dalby’s only record of scoring goals was in the Scottish Farmers League. Costelloe scored 1 in 28 appearances in this league during 2023/24. Makes Nlundulu look prolific. Nice waste of £500k by the piemen. Happier with Dalby as a freebie. Edited June 26, 2025 by Rival Son Quote

The idea behind 4231 (which it seems like we're going for) is that 2 of the 3, 1 of the wingers and the no 10, contribute plenty of goals, and if we can get a centre back up for corners, we'll have no shortage of goals. Rival Son Posted June 26, 2025 Posted June 26, 2025 Agree @Zog1. I’m less worried than others. PS: I think they’ll be an expectation that both wingers score goals, as well as the 8/10. Quote
Zog1 Posted June 26, 2025 Posted June 26, 2025 (edited) Luca Barrington would be a good shout for that sort of A-B team gap Out of contract in a week, 2 footed pacy 20 year old winger, who played a full season at league 2 for Grimsby last year. Was contracted to Brighton but originally from Manchester. Edited June 26, 2025 by Zog1 Quote
thebells Posted June 26, 2025 Posted June 26, 2025 Wrexham got promoted last season scoring the same number of goals as us. We've lost a 10-12 (League) goals a season man and replaced him with someone likely to get similar, but who will offer a more physical presence, so i'd argue an upgrade already (if he does his job). The key issue has been to change the 'character' of the squad and strengthen the spine of the team. I do expect us to bring in another forward, but i don't think we are left behind by any stretch! And I'm not sure we score more goals by simply buying more forwards. One of the biggest issues last season was the constant conceding of the first goal. Scoring first gives you an 88% chance of winning or drawing the game (i love a stat). This has to be the key focus for SS. Also worth considering that the deal to bring TSL to the club was clearly done weeks and weeks ago. For all we know, there are players training at the club today who have already signed but not been announced! There are risks with the way we are doing things. If SS doesn't succeed, fan pressure may tell and then we have another manager coming in with newer players on 3-4 year contracts who weren't his (or her) choice. Also a risk with a leaner squad that will likely need the youngsters from time to time. We have been hit heavily with injuries for some time, so the club need to find a solution to this as they are clearly talented, but raw. Really important that SS is given time and space to get this right, even if it takes a couple of seasons. Last thing. No idea how much creedence in the N'Mai rumours from Salford. Salford clearly touting him. But he's outstanding. Said it before but i will nail my colours to the mast and say 1 million for him (likely less up front then a sell on) would turn out to be a snip in a couple of years. Quote
