miamiwhite Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 For those who went in 77/78, how many did we take down there ? Quote
paulhanley Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 The Okocha game - Autumn 2003. He was absolutely unbelievable that day, just ran the show. From memory we'd only won one of our first 10 or so games so we'd no reason to expect a performance like we got. Easily deserved the win - felt ten feet tall walking off White Hart Lane. Honourable mention for a great game in a horrible season.... the 2-2 draw in 95/6 when we were 2-0 down and scored twice late. I think it was just before Xmas in 95 and Gudni scored one of the goals. Quote
hughmungus Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 (edited) 1978 it was the same day as the FA cup semi final and I remember London was mad, the crowd at our game was still the biggest and we hadn't got a ticket but managed to get in the home end. Lasted till half time when a copper rumbled us and we got escorted to the away end. Not sure if numbers but I'd guess around 5000 or so in a 50,000 plus crowd although it was a long time ago and beer was involved. Edited May 14, 2017 by hughmungus Quote
Casino Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 On the day of the okocha show, there's a tale that Robbie Keane nutmegged jay jay in the pre match warm ups The response being a masterclass Quote

I think it was just before Xmas in 95 and Gudni scored one of the goals. This was the game for my only visit to White Hart Lane. I think it was our first away point that season after losing the first 9 or 10 away games. Scott Green scored the equaliser IIRC. Quote
Underpants Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 1978 being in the wrong end behind the goal when McCallister scored for them and getting moody looks because me and my mate weren't celebrating ! Heard some dodgy story's from that day. That's probably the main reason why Spurs are one of the teams I've never liked. They might have gained some extra brownie points from the Muamba thing, but not enough for me. As already mentioned that Okocha game was one of them I Was There matches. I like the stadium. Good atmosphere. But shithead fans who have a big chip on there shoulder because of a more illustrious neighbour. Just like Everton and City fans. Quote

Fun and games all over the place - especially Motorway Services on the way down. As far as Undies dodgy stories, we had an encounter (they tried to ambush us) with a bunch of what I presumed were West Indian heritage Spurs lads. Always remember their leader shouting the odds had a terrible lisp which I thought was fucking hilarious at the time! They soon learned they'd bitten off more than they could chew but it all petered out when one of them produced a rather large blade and our lot said 'fuck that' and moved on.. We drove down but recall stories of a crazy riot at Kings Cross with 4 or 5 different mobs clashing? Maybe someone on here was in that? Quote
marple whites Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Will certainly miss this ground, especially remember these games I went to at the lane:- 2 - 2 when we were 2 - 0 down in the year we get relegated in 95 losing 6 - 0 in the cup midweek and being that angry I wrote a letter to Mr Gartside when I got home driving down for FA cup game, parked up and then it was called off winning 2- 1 in 2004 (think Pederson got the winner) not going to the Okocha win junior Marple being the mascot for the "Muamba" game Quote
Smiley Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Only went twice. The 2-2 draw in '95. Blake's first game??? Fell over drunk and landed on a dad and daughter sat in front of me. Threw up before kick off the darkest sick imaginable. Think 2nd time I went we drew again. Sunny day. 1-1 I think. Got leathered around Covent Garden. Quote
gonzo Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Did we play there first game of season once? Also my dad tells me of going down for a league game on the sat then a cup match the following Tuesday. Hardcore. Quote

Whites man Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Getting hit in the head by a coin celebrating Andy Johnsons winner, boss. It wasn't a coin, it was a quarter bottle of Bells that slipped out of Howard Kendall's hand when he was celebrating. Quote

SatanGreavsie Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 (edited) Good few times, with the Muamba game being the one that will be etched in the memory. Walking away from the ground was an experience I'll (hopefully) never have again. The one plus side of it was nobody from the home fans was ballooning or even engaging in gallows humour; indeed I remember passing a fuck off big bastard who I'd not like to have bumped into in other circumstances, and earwigging his phone call - he was obviously ringing his wife to see how the kids were coping with what they'd just witnessed on tv. Brought it home really. Went to "replay" but wasn't sure what to expect and in the end it kind of failed to deliver on the memories front. I went to the postponed game; we came out of the boozer we usually use before Arsenal and were on the "up" escalator in the tube when coppers coming down the "down" one told us it were off. Back to the boozer. Another one I remember me, H, Buckhurst getting a lift from the boozer by NB. We left her trying to find a parking space and went in. By the time she made it we were losing 3-0 and I recall she said the turnstile guy really the made the effort to check if she really wanted to pay the extortionate entrance fee at 3-0 down... SoberDan Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 Probably been to the Lane more than any other ground except the Macron. I have to sayon the Muamba game being on a train back to Liverpool Street y was rammed but you could hear a penny drop sticks out for me Quote
superjohnmcginlay Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 6 hour drive down in shit conditions to park up and get outside the lane to be told the match had been called off due to waterlogged pitch! Went back the Tuesday and we got a fucking pasting Last time I was there my Spurs mate had managed to put a spurs badge on my coat we got a thumping there too, Not a happy place to be on my visits, Missed the Ockocha game! freds dad Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 6 hour drive down in shit conditions to park up and get outside the lane to be told the match had been called off due to waterlogged pitch! I went down for the same game as a guest of Holsten Pils. I was in the ground watching the referee doing his pitch inspection and one of the stewards saying there had never been a game called off at the Lane. How wrong he was. Went into London with the Holsten rep and got well and truly pissed. Quote
whiteboy Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 0-6 League cup, shambles all round walking in after 25 mins to see their third go in and a drive back up the M1-M6 with a missing passenger window and radio. The league game in the last relegation season was possibly the most depressing away game ever. There was literally next to no-one in the away end apart from a few koreans and we took a hiding after a ridiculous red card in the first half. 40+ quid well spent Quote
bolton va va Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 WHL, Upton Park, Old Den & Old Highbury were all proper atmospheric football grounds & the last 3 were all better than their replacements. 2 WHL trips stand out......1978 was a bit of a shambles with the BEN telling us all week which turnstiles to head for as away fans but when we ( & loads of others ) got there, they were already shut & it turned out that as many Spurs fans as Bolton had filled the section with some Bolton fans being given a hard time....... though apparently the coachload from the Griffin were left alone . The rest of us had to pay in the home sections & keep quiet in a noisy & very hostile crowd even when we were diddled with a good goal disallowed. Another good one was in the early days in the prem, when it was nearly Xmas & we had hardly got an away point. On the Howcroft coach, for some reason half a dozen blokes turned up in fancy dress & were a bit gobby on the coach..........so we were 2 down at the game but scored 2 latish goals to get an unexpected draw that was greeted with massive, Southend style, over the top celebrations, but as soon as we came out of the ground the Spurs fans were furious & it was tricky getting back to the coaches but we all made it........except the fancy dress mob, 2 of whom got thumped & one wasn't seen again. They were quieter on the way back !! Happy days. Quote
