Just checked gunnlaguson career he never played more than 40 games for any of his clubs yet scored over 100 goals in the 300 odd games he started wonder if rumours of his homosexuality were true and if that worked against him, certainly was a talented lad.

Thompson made it up didn't he?

Thompson made it up didn't he?

Apparently Nicky Campbell wrongly announced it on radio then retracted it, according to a guardian article in 1999.

My mum saw him in the local video shop once holding hands with another bloke. Not necessarily confirmation of his sexuality but make of that what you will.

I might be in a minority but I used to really enjoy going to the early round Worthington Cup games in that time too, barely anyone there but some brilliant games. Still felt bizarre for us to be playing in a ground like that to me and took about 3 or 4 years to wear off.

I remember one match going to pens I think?

Nearly missed the train home. Never missed a match.

Fuck me how things change :(

....stig tofting was a nailed on bummer to by the way. He was bang at it with the landlord of old Orleans. True fact.

Just had a look at that season.

There's some bizarre games I have no recollection of whatsoever.

Tranmere away first game and them beating us 3-2 at reebok being two. Seriously don't remember these, there's no doubt I'll have been at both as well.

Don't remember playing Grimsby at any point either. A 1-0 away win in March??

I must have been smashed on E's all season.

I remember that 3 2 tranmere because I'd not long had a mobile and had signed up to some match service that text you when there was a goal in your teams game

Cutting edge stuff at the time

Cept it was tempremental and I got a text telling me Scott taylor had made it 3 2 every couple of hours until something like Tuesday

As for gunnlaugsson, I heard he got caught bumming a bloke over a piano in the moat house

I heard he got caught doing a bukkake in Britannia, over a piano too though, so there may be some truth in it.

Ground looks different on the usual TV angle from that time too, pre advertisement boards everywhere. And that netting that barely moved when struck.

We can basically ascertain that something happened between Gunlaugsson and a piano then.

Tranmere first game was the one where Sam had the team change at the Reebok so they arrived there fully kitted up then were on the coach home virtually straight on the final whistle?
