Was having a chat with a fella on the train back from Wembley who used to sit behind me 20ish years ago in NSL but now resides in Cape Town. Worryingly, we both picked out three Barnsley players in Connell, McAtee and Cosgrove who would probably be upgrades on some of our existing squad, albeit with a change in direction that I don’t think Evatt is likely to take.

I don't know what the contract situations are but I think we need to move on from Gethin Jones and potentially even Santos. 

Our midfield is too often passive. I wouldn't try for Maghoma. I have big doubts and Sheehan and Thomason and Dempsey never seems fully fit. 

Collins has looked a good signing. But up front we need to free JDB and sell Victor. Big Dan doesn't look good enough either.

It all needs a very big freshen up now. The mentality on display yesterday has to be tackled at root.

As a sidenote - if we can get full seasons out of Johnston and Mendes-Gomes that's going to help.

I feel like Mendes Gomes was a bigger loss than people think. Was really starting to look good before he got injured. Only issue is he's had injury issues throughout his career and I don't think he suits playing up top with collins.

Article in the BN a while back about Santos and his contract.

Reading between the lines, I reckon he's been hedging his bets.

Given some of his recent performances haven't been at the level he can be, it's probably time to cash in.

Mendes Gomes has absoluely no bearing on yesterdays debacle. Or previous loses against inferior teams.

At least the lad tried to make something happen. He mostly had no movement in front of him and no option but to come back to Toal or Santos. Thomason was hiding.

I never said he had any bearing on yesterday's game. Just that he was clicking and playing well and looking like a player before he got injured.

My only concern Regarding Johnston and Gomes is what those serious injuries will have on them as players Paul , although playing them injured would have probably been an improvement yesterday

Doubt we will be inundated with offers for Santos after some of his performances this season. A colossal on his day but they're becoming more like rocking horse shit these days. Seems to have become extremely complacent for some reason.

To be fair I’d keep Rico but purely as a defender and not a ball playing centre back which he’s not. When he’s fit which I don’t think he is just now, there’s no better than him in L1.
