It’s not just Wooton though is it, they’ve 3 or 4 other dangerous players like Sidibeh, Mothersille, Olowu and potentially Louis Barry back from injury as well as Norburn who for me is arguably the best midfielder in L1. For me 3 at the back is essential to keep them all under control.

Agree with that. I think 3 at the back would suit that, as it allows Johnston and Toal to mop up, if Forino focusses on Wootton. Also allows Johnston to play a little further to the left, so less room in behind him.

.. but yes, I see how this could give us more protection

Wow, with that lot, you'd think they would be top of the league, not below us.

Not forgetting the return of JDC.

I really liked him when he was with us and was sorry to see him go.

He was shite, lets get at "pointer" Cogley, hes a sending off waiting to happen. SS obviously thought he was shite as well!

I'll play any formation that means Gale and Apter don't start.

This and double this.    Leave gale in middlebrook burger king

The concern I have with 4 at the back is against a striker who can peel off Johnston and find the acres of room that are in behind him and Conway (who ventures upfield). It’s happened too many times and it did against Plymouth (Bonham made a good save).

Obviously there are also issues with 3 at the back, but I’d be looking at the best way to manage Wootton, as he’s a decent striker at this level.

The only problem with this analysis is that it misses the root cause of the problem. Not 4 at the back, not Johnston, not Conway, but Eoin Toal going wanderbout!

The slight concern I have today is how much playing with 10 men & the travelling at Plymouth has taken out of us.  No idea if we got any knocks but Toal & Sheehan would be playing their 3rd game in 6 days.

Travel won't be an issue.
The team flew to Exeter last Thursday and flew back on Saturday.
It's less than an hour on the coach from Exeter Airport to Plymouth.

I 80% agree with this.

The other 20% of me thinks back to the goal we conceded first game of the season, where Wootton out-muscled Forino to score!

It’s just another example of where all our players are fallible and have vulnerabilities.

Ah yeah, good point! Let's just get some goals scored so if Wootton does score it doesn't matter.

As a general point, these are the kind of games to get excited about. This run against the better teams couldn't have come a better time to get the fans up for the play offs

I would have loved to have seen CBT on 1 wing and ACD on the other what a nightmare for other teams .

I think Gale will benefit from ACD coming back and taking the attention off him. He's not playing well at the moment but he's had his moments earlier in the season where he's looked good and scored some important goals. He's just inconsistent. But as a previous poster pointed out, when 3-4 players are playing poorly, he's the one the cops the abuse.

Perhaps because he's young enough not to count towards the squad limit, will be on relative peanuts, helps the argument there exists a pathway to the first team, and to give him an opportunity to prove himself

Also, McAteer couldn't get a game for Marine first team iirc.

Moved up and was a revelation.

S-S may not end up making it with us, but making a judgement solely on a loan period isn't the best way to go.

It's not his inconsistency that annoys me. He's a Division 3 winger in his first season in England, so it is to be expected.

It's his lack of effort to track back and the lack of help he gives his full back that irritates me most.

Dempsey and ACD 😉

Perfect timing for ACD to be coming back. 2 or 3 off the bench, 3 or 4 from the start, fully up to speed and at his best ready for the play offs!
