That was an entertaining game from start to finish. Both sides went for it. Thought Luton were quite poor and not the threat that we feared but, once again, we beat ourselves with bad finishing, shit defending and atrocious decision making. We deserve what we get and it’s a tough route to promotion as it has been all season

Can’t quite fathom out that ref’s thinking today but he wasn’t the problem at all

Luton were alright, no more, as you say, gave up the ball easily to us half a dozen times first half, we ought to have made more of it.

Carried on in that vein second half, lost count of the number of times we made the wrong choice, fluffed shots, over / underhit final balls. 

Their 2nd laid bare our issue, its not so much our defence wilts under pressure, more that we give poor goals away when not under pressure.

Thought Sheehan and Ruben were decent today to be fair, Luton were quite tidy in midfield, sloppy at times but also forced in to mistakes because of our midfield 2’s press. So they’re the least of our concerns 

Kenny looked lost without Dalby and for all the decent link up play last week he and Burstow looked like strangers 

Schuey needs to start fining Gale for every chance where he can play a pass he decides to be selfish and balloons it. 3 times he decided to shoot and didnt hit the target once. Fucking gormless, selfish clown

Was a decent game. Dodgy pen I believe but they hit the woodwork a few times too.

We could have had a couple more but for squandered chances.

Their shithousery at the end was poor though. I'd have had the sprinklers in no time.

We weren't that far off Cardiff for a while, but we couldn't take advantage of their slip ups.

Can't help feeling we lacked enough belief as we got closer, and then it slipped away. 

Almost accepted that the play offs would be our best chance.

None of that matters now though.

We can't change it, and have as good a chance as anyone to go up.

SS needs to get some belief and desire into them, and try to sort out this glaring weakness.

Rest up for a couple of days, give them a bit of family time, and then back in for the build.

 

It's not a 'however you phrase it' situation. It's a league table of 46 games and a season played across 9 months.

I doubt we've been within five points of Cardiff since the first month of the season. Not with both teams on the same number of games anyway. We never looked remotely like being an automatic promotion team and in the end we've finished closer to 15th than 2nd. We've won the 9th most games in the league and it's only a series of extraordinary comebacks that have kept us where we are.

None of that matters for the playoffs, which are between four equally uninspiring teams. So of course we can still go up, but we can be realistic about what we are. A team that deservedly finished 5th in a poor third tier.

Our games only seem to start when both teams have scored.

Nobody ever says before our games any more "we must score first".

Its literally just about who scores last, whatever goes on in the preceding 89 minutes just a warm up.

For that reason, the 1st leg feels slightly low key - it could be 2-0 (or rather 4-2) to either team and the game only really comes to life in the 2nd half of the 2nd leg assuming nobody is 3 or more up.

The system we play works going fwad. It also works on the right because ACD works so hard to be in the right position defensively. It is a shambles on the left. Teams know this and exploit it. 
The keeper is awful on deep crosses from corners he gets under the ball and time after time it causes us problems and costs goals. Teams know this and exploit it. 
The ref was a prick. Not bias just a prick. Conway could easily have got a red, imo should have. Their number 8 already booked clattered Sheehan late, a clear booking instead they had a long chat. The 18 pulls back Cisoko, plays a crap advantage and then does nothing. He did not cost us the game, I did not think the Kenny challenge was a penalty on first view. 
Once again we have found a way to not win or even draw when we have been the better team. It is ok slagging off the defence but the lack of ruthlessness by the forward players was pathetic. So many wrong options or underhit passes.

 

Once again we have made thing a lot harder for ourselves than we needed to. 
 

In the overall scheme things it does not matter but our approach after they went 3-2 was terrible. Sheehan shooting from the kick off summed it up.

Feels like a right kick in the bollocks that result in terms of how we have dropped to fifth, but there was a lot of positives to take from the game. This time next week we need  a full house behind the team and have a real go at bradford

The only thing I really worry about, is our inability to adapt to tactical issues. Prime examples we could not handle their corners all match, they didn't change the tactic, and we didn't seem to change how we handled them. There have been a couple of matches this season like this. Apart from that, the playoffs are a lottery, i just hope we have bought the right ticket this time

Gale goes to keepers left everytime he cuts inside. One chance he had the whole other half of the net to aim at as the defender had committed to block his usual target.

Contacts lucky to have stayed on. Thought it would have been a red. 

We need to sort out the back, Johnston or Forino or Toal. Tutu is a wing back filling in and imo is a downgrade from Cogley. I know Conway was second choice but I doubt anyone saw Christies knees going or Taylor being shockingly poor. 

Gale needs a ticking off, he's brilliant but his attitudes shocking.
