Dr. Feelgood Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 The Ego Has Landed" ... & fallen out of the nest a bit. Ronaldo, as we all know, was dropped by Portugal following his infantile reaction to being subbed in the group matches. Apparently, on being told he wasn't starting against the Swiss, he had a melt down & threatened to leave the squad. He came on, in their 6-1 victory, on the 71st minute, didn't score or assist and at the final whistle didn't join the squad but sloped off to the dressing room. After the game the subs went onto the pitch to warm-down Whilst the players warmed down in a gym ... he went to the gym. You can find reasons & excuses for some behaviours but collectively they show a petulant, arrogant prick. Quote

Me too but if you look at the raw stats, not much between them pace wise. Mbappe is widely regarded as the worlds best player at the moment. Much as I like Walker as a player, he will never get anywhere near that accolade. Quote
Nowack Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 Very rarely watch press conferences but caught Kalvin Philips being interviewed this afternoon and he came across very well. Asked the usual bunch of pointless questions and answered them with good humour and eloquence. Quote

Might not be the very best footballer around, but has plenty of qualities. Quote
Farrelli Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 I just hope England give it a decent go and don’t go too defensive. Same team as the last game for me. Quote

Members DazBob Posted December 9, 2022 Members Posted December 9, 2022 It's a quandary that's going to be giving Southgate a headache. France have shown they're a team that you can create chances against, so if we go for the jugular then everyone pushing up leaves us wide open for France to counter us with the pace of Mbappe and Dembele. If we concern ourselves too much about Mbappe and Dembele then it'll be deemed as too defensive and he'll get pelters for it. It's gonna be a nervous 90 (or 120) minutes. Quote
Site Supporter Steejay Posted December 9, 2022 Site Supporter Posted December 9, 2022 Surely he’ll learn from his mistakes at the last two tournaments? Stop worrying about the opposition and play to our own strengths. Unchanged team should be the best way to go imo. Quote

Suspect he'll be criticised whatever he does by the "told you so"ers hoping we lose. Fuck em. Quote

With England it’s a whole new ball game. The only thing that will stop the Southgate critics will be a convincing win and for the likes of bolty a statement saying he’s no longer interested in rainbows/kneeling/human rights. All of which isn’t going to happen, so he’ll never please everybody. Fortunately, and importantly, his players believe in him, he brings out the best in them, he’s able to block out the external noise and calmy and professionally focus on the job in hand. Best and most successful England manager in my lifetime. Quote

Wanderlust Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 (edited) Croatia bossing Brazil so far but - and this is something we all know too well - no big threat at the business end. Celtic FB Juranovic is rapid and he's not only dealing with Vinicius Jr and Neymar but is an attacking threat too. Edited December 9, 2022 by Wanderlust Quote

Eddie Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 If Croatia had anything about them on the ball going forward then they could take advantage of the fact that Brazil are basically playing 5 forwards and 1 midfielder (similar set up to us in the World Cup semi final with Lingard and Alli in the midfield 3!!). As it is, they’re pretty toothless so I imagine Brazil’s forwards will eventually pick them off Quote

Think it's only feet and throw ins they can't pick it up from, and the throw in doesn't have to be backwards Not sure if the shin counts though    Quote
