As much as I'd obviously be pleased to see us sign some midfield quality (to replace Maghoma) and a decent forward (to replace JDB), I find it hard to look beyond the influence of the wingbacks, those positions are absolutely key under IE.  No disrespect to Williams and JDC but if they are starting more games than not, we won't improve, they don't defend well enough and their attacking is so limited.  If we get an upgrade in those positions and adequately replace Maghoma and JDB I will be enthused again.

I knew Williams was injured for the start of the season but have you heard its till Christmas? (I might not rate him hugely but I certainly would prefer him to be available as a squad player before then).

I agree that area needs strengthening but I'd put it on level pegging with getting some power and physique in to the middle of the park.

Half-listening to Iles podcast this morning he mentioned it'll be around Christmas by the time he's fully back match fit

For me his head goes down too easily (he's not alone though).  Seems to start the game in a bad mood and either has a stormer and looks bright and breezy, or goes into his shell when its not going his way.  i don't see him encouraging or advising others like Tomo, Jones or Santos.  Just doesn't strike me as an on field leader even though he's a decent player when on form and may be a leader off the pitch.  Also hard to see him being a nailed on starter week in week out for IE like Sheehan, Tomo, Santos, Charles, Jones and JDC.

Problem with Williams is the same as Dan always injured and when fit just not up to it I would get rid once he’s fully fit .

I really like Dempsey when he’s fit. He was MOM at Wembley last year, against the winners of our league.

Just seems to get a lot of injuries. I’m not sure if he’s vocal enough to be captain but when he’s fit, he’s our best ‘box to box’ midfielder.

Medicals don’t deem whose fit to play- they are basically a risk assessment. Age of player v injuries v length of contract v fee

A players could be fucked, but if it’s only a 2 year contract risks could be taken if there is potential profit.

This Josh Onomah rumour is a bit weird.

Yes he was a good player but his career has been blighted with injuries and "fitness issues" and I don't think he played last season - basically disappeared after he was released by Preston - so I'm wondering if he's trying to make a comeback and has had a trial?

Not quite a Jardel situation - and if he's anything like the player he was he'd be great for us in midfield. Should be in the prime of his career now but I've no idea where he's been  or what he's up to - and then a rumour that we were interested popped up out of the blue on t'internet.
