It was packed in there and everyone seemed to know what they were doing and were ordering all sorts of cuts of meat I'd never heard of. I just wanted bacon and a pack from Tesco used to come to about £2.89 so I asked for £3 worth. Unfortunately the butcher thought I meant 3lbs of bacon and chucked this huge wedge on the counter and asked me for about 7 quid. The shop was so busy I was too embarrassed to say anything and just paid up. I think we only finished the last of it the other month. Bacon in my local butchers is about a fiver a pound so you’ve done well there mate 😂 Quote

What I'm saying is that not everything in them is British. Anything that is local, they generally (and quite rightly) advertise as British or local. There is plenty of stuff in Butchers up and down the country that they buy from wholesale, that may well not be British.....such as lamb and beef. Our local place, sells British beef, and he also sells beef...he doesn't say where it comes from, I'm sure if I asked he'd tell me, but judging by the fact it's lower in price, I'd expect it's not from here. Same with Lamb, he'll sell Welsh, New Zealand and then also just "lamb" all three have different price points, and give customer choice. Make a point of enquiring, keep it British and local. Butcher I typically go in says where all the meat comes from. Swerving them at the moment though as covid rule following is rather hit and miss. Went to a farm the other day that do their own lamb and beef, with other meat again with its provenance described. Supermarket stuff usually says where its from too. Quote

Should know his cuts and be able to recommend what you need according to dish type you want to create. Sadly, some of the more traditional cuts aren't always offered or may need to be ordered. Its worth going online to suss out things as you may well be able to save money too, some cuts command a lower price, but have a special flavour or suit a type of cooking. Quote

Supermarkets have to be thanked for it I suppose.... Quote

I heard someone state a few months ago that If a loaf of bread had gone up the same rate as house prices, a loaf would cost around £25. Expensive toast 🤨 True, it was only when I was speaking to the people buying my house that I really thought about it. They're buying this as their first property, and they've had to save £45K deposit. So it's taken them until they're nearly 30, and now they're about to embark on a 35 year mortgage!! A mate of mine has just put his house on the market, as him and his wife are downsizing from a 5 bed to a 3 bed - purely so they can release equity to give their 2 kids £100K each as a deposit, otherwise they'll never get on the property ladder down here. On the plus side though, they can get 1Ib of bacon for just £4 from the village butchers 😀 Quote

You gotta feel for the young people of today in trying to get a mortgage, it seems it's either parental help or in inheritance, or maybe one of them 1st time buyer schemes where you only own 51% of the property, or something along them lines. Luckily for them, food is still cheap, and that includes Bacon unless they are veggie or vegan I did that to get going back in 2006, though managed to stretch it to 75% could've gone 100% in a shit area, but was all about location what's mad is there are places in London where you start off owning 5%, get a mortgage for 5%, and pay rent on 95% fuck that Quote

I don't give a fuck how much they think they need to get themselves and their family over here to the promised land. The safe way is to realise that the little obstacle which makes us an island is bloody dangerous. Stay in France... How do you tell if they are refugees? is an economic migrant the same as a political refugee? Is there an online form to complete before you leave, for example, France? Quote
MickyD Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 Question 5346 - Are you an economic migrant or a political refugee? (Be aware that answering incorrectly will debar you from entry) Quote

Whenever you feel like criticising anyone, he told me, just remember that all the people in the world haven't had the advantages you have had.'' Quote
