It's intrinsically linked though in terms of trying to reduce the emissions of the more polluting cars Transport being one of the biggest contributors to c02 emissions Quote
London Wanderer Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 There are now huge differences between Cons & Labour on climate policy. Carbon capture, if it even works effectively, shouldn’t be used on new projects. It’s for existing ones. Which can already provide us with more than enough oil and gas needed for the transition. It seems political suicide that Rishi is dismissing climate concerns on the back of what is happening in Europe and warnings from scientists. But who knows, maybe there are more folk in the denial camp than we think who will lap it up. Then there’s the camp that agrees climate change is an issue, but refuses to accept the need to make changes to the way we all live. either way, this GE can’t come soon enough. Quote

They are but the whole ethos of becoming carbon neutral is not served by contradictory and conflicting policy. Quote
Spider Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 I see the Tories are completely at odds with themselves on the licenses. They’re a fucking joke Quote

People are dying now & ULEZ has cut a lot of the toxic pollution. It was never “anti-car”. It’s about improving public health. Edited July 31, 2023 by London Wanderer Quote
Farrelli Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 The planet is fucked. We are supposed to be leaders in the global climate change emergency but we are undermining our own commitments. If we can’t do it why would emerging economies set targets and stick to them. My own kids can’t be bothered putting paper or plastic in the appropriate recycling bag half the time. People in London can’t afford to upgrade their vehicles so will vote against ULEZ whatever the price to public health. Then you have Tory MPs like Bob Sealy completely in denial about the rate of temperature rise and what it means. Quote

London Wanderer Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 no new legislation on arsonist prevention as of yet either, shouldn’t be long though. Quote

You could also argue that sitting back and doing nothing to prevent kids developing lung disease is fucking folk over. i agree with you, if those figures are correct, that more should be done to help people financially. I’ve got a diesel van and I think we need low emission zones. Though I’m lucky in that I don’t need my vehicle for work. There are two sides to this. The politicians, scientists and doctors aren’t looking to fuck people over, they’re trying to save lives & prevent illness. If the money isn’t there to fully support people then I still think we need to crack ahead with clean air & net zero policies. Ignoring the issue will cause far more economic damage. Quote

We aim to clean up the air we all breathe through an investment-led Clean Air Plan that does not include a charging Clean Air Zone. Quote
Ani Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 It is fucking strange. Boris introduces ULEZ Goes of to be an MP with a 20k majority Becomes PM continues our long term commitment to net zero Turns out he is a bit of cunt. Ousted as PM. Sulks about committee findings and resigns as an MP Tories hold his seat by under 1000 in by election where ULEZ was an issue Rishi basically back tracks on any really commitment to environmental change. Reactionary politics make him look weaker and weaker. Quote
