We are back to policies being dreamt up my gammons sat in a pub with a flat roof.

Bring back national service. That'll sort these gangs out.

Fuck me :D

But it grabs the headlines and stops people talking about the last 14 years of incompetent government. Clever, clever.

All the news today will be about the Conservatives and the future not the past.

If it happens, if it doesn't, doesn't matter; it's doing its job.

Sounds like they are coming up with ideas to get the "get Brexit done" voter's to stick by them

Out of touch public school boys, pure nonsense this.

Compulsory volunteering could be a positive part of the curriculum for 14 - 16 year olds. This is bonkers though. For all the bad rep they get, there are a lot of driven teenagers who just want to earn money and get their careers going. 18 is an important time where they can earn & save whilst most are still at home. This would take that away at a time when rent & mortgages are sky high.

A few Reform voters will lap it up 🇬🇧

Very very rarely post on here. I actually thought I’d misheard the headline on the radio earlier. This is fucking bonkers! 🤣

It's like Rishi and the Tories have never spoken to military types about National Service every time it crops up they are usually the loudest anti voices going.

They've enough going on without having to babysit a bunch of teenagers.

Read somewhere there are 75k soldiers and 750k 18 year olds.

As the yanks would say, do the math.

Sounds a bit like a Duke of Edinburgh job.

Yes, that was the stand out policy they were going for…

Mainstream media must have got it all wrong.

They’ll be along shortly to announce it’s all just an expanded D of E rollout.

Not mandatory apparently.

And not necessarily military neither.

Sounds a bit like a Duke of Edinburgh job.

Indeed it's a wet fart of a policy but it's all everyone is talking about.

It was mandatory last night and this morning and is being watered down by the hour. Anyone would think they're just chucking out policies and soundbites on the hoof.

There's probably some merit in arguments for form of National Service but the policy seems to have appeared from nowhere to appease I don't know who

It's to appease potential Conservative-to-Reform voters who fantasise that they fought in World War 2, and who think youngsters should be put through hardships they never actually suffered themselves.

That gap will narrow anyway - this is about dominating headline and to move the eye away from the record and it's worked like a dream. It's all any news channel has run all weekend. I'm actually impressed by them for the first time in ages. If Labour thought this would be a cake walk, they at least know they're in a fight now.
