If i remember rightly, it was about 600 new cases each day when the schools were told to close..

Reopening them with 4000 new cases a day doesn't make sense.

We were only testing about 650 a day though. There's far fewer people knocking around with COVID now than there was 6 weeks ago.

I have to say I'm confused at how the current figure for testing capacity (108,000) is 14,000 less than the amount of tests we reported on 1st May.

This lockdown is a load of bollocks in this country, just drove home from work in Atherton to Warrington and the amount of cars on the road was ridiculous, just looked like some folk were just out for a drive on a nice sunny day,  no way were all those car journeys for essential journeys.

Spoke to a mate this morning who lives in Tenerife for 6 months of the year and he's back here now in the UK, he says he can't believe the state of our lockdown compared to the Canaries, he said the rozzers stop you all the time and ask for proof of receipt if you say you've been shopping etc, otherwise you get a 600 euro fine.

Just been talking to my contact who’s high up within one of the big care groups he said no one is dying of old age, heart attack, pneumonia or anything else in care homes it’s all being reported as a COVID 19, he said it’s utterly ridiculous.

Aye. Think I might have put it on here before. BiL lives in Javea in Spain. He’s been stopped by the coppers so many times when walking the dog he takes the dog passport out with him to prove that he owns the dog. Otherwise like you say he could have faced a big fine for “borrowing” someone’s dog as an excuse to be out and about

He’s flying home this weekend for the MiL’s  funeral. We’ve had to email him a copy of the death certificate to carry with him to prove that his travel is essential

600 cases with about 2000 tests being done. Different kettle of fish now.

Just admit you want a long summer holiday! 🤣 Joking. I know you are concerned about the Mrs.

Even at the end, it wouldn't be possible to say there was a chance would've got bored

We haven't got the strictest lockdown

Folk can still generally go about their lives, they just can't go the pub, restaurant, cinema, match etc

If those things remain shut, they still can't go

There's plenty of places doing gatherings like that one in Ireland

I don't think shutting down a week earlier wouldn't mean more people would be out and about and back to normal now, or trying to, but it would've saved more lives, i think

Either way, we had to lock down and we don't have to rush back

Indeed. Without parallel universes to look at, we can't truly know the best way.

A more stringent lockdown might have helped, who knows, but without the enforcement, it doesn't pose a threat to those ignoring it.

I'm also leaning towards the side of caution with regard to going back to normal. The NHS (employees) have suffered enough and must be exhausted. They last thing they need is another large growth in cases.

Hopefully this tti system will help with all that.

You seem a proper level headed chap

No vaccine for 2 year

No antibody test

What do we do

Said it a few times, Roche have got an antibody test sorted now, whilst Omega Diagnostics are waiting for the rubber stamp for theirs, they're actually getting government funding for it.

I know a Spanish woman who left her house for the first time in 50 days yesterday

I drove from Stockport to Manc up the A6 and it was business as usual in longsight, nose to nose traffic, most shops open, loads of people out and about getting on with it

Same as most days except for the masks

Sounds much worse than round here. Most shops closed.

TBF most of the shops are supermarkets or food outlets, and plenty were waiting to get into a shop

But it was 3pm and it was shit traffic

It didn't feel like lockdown, not compared to other places on the same stretch of road which were dead

Maybe more an indication of the dynamic of the area, but if you didn't know any better, it was business as usual, we're not under lockdown by any stretch

There are many other examples of where our data is quicker and more detailed So please exercise extreme caution with international comparisons We can sadly see rising numbers of deaths in the UK. Comparable international data is not yet available

That there A6 is a fucker for traffic!

Speaking to a few building types over these weeks and they all say they are doing bits here and there. Still not easy to get materials, and can't necessarily do the work they have got on.

Roads getting busier but still quieter than normal.

Biggest issue is cunts with no interest in taking heed of warnings and rules, who will in all likelihood, extend the whole process.
