He was at Cheltenham, Bristol Rovers agreed a fee for him and offered him a decent wage. He turned them down, because he was going to sign for Gillingham instead to be "close to his family". Charlton offered him more money as he was on his way to Gillingham, so he reneged on that transfer and signed for Charlton.

Now a year on and he's on the move again to be nearer to his wife and kids. Were they not a consideration last year?

So when we kept getting told we'd never have been able to sign him because he's moving to London to be closer to his family, it turns out we could've because her family are from up north

Well, more North than Gillingham, or even Cheltenham. If you take him at face value (!) He moved to Charlton as it was near HIS home. But that's not worked out. Sounds like housing was expensive ... who new ? Plus his 11yr old son wasn't accepted at his first three choices & his wife became unsettled.

If she WAS settled with him at Cheltenham and happy now with Birmingham there's quite a geography she could come from & make all that true.

To be honest, from the video I think it might be and had it been up to him he might have stayed 

If Charlton accept the bid and the Mrs is moving anyway then he's not left with much choice

Except many, many players & managers know any contract is short & so settle the family in an area and rent where they're currently working.
