So I have decided to take my son to his first match on Saturday. I may regret this as heโ€™s only 3 and bounces off the fucking walls all day. Rucksack full of bribery snacks, I will be reet. Welcome to a lifetime of heart ache lad.ย

Anyone remember their first match?ย

I do.

Barnsley, a 2-1 home win.

My dad's place of work had a couple of complimentary season tickets, and they weren't being used, so he nabbed them.

My uncle took me and my cousin, I think it was PNE but might be wrong. Was in burnden paddock at the bottom end with no cover. I fucking loved it, must be about 35 years ago.

Newcastle at home '81ish because Kevin Keegan was in town.

Think we won 3-1.ย

Stood on the Embankment and the only thing I remember from the game is an old man eating a packet of biscuits in front of me and I really wanted one.

Coincidentally, that was my first game as well. I also stood on The Embankment. I don'tย  remember a bloke with biscuits though

76/77 season we beat Hull 5-1 I thinkย

Don't remember much of the match but I do remember running up and down Manny rd north playing football with a empty fag packetย

Boxing Day 1968. ย  1-0 home defeat to Carlisle Utd. ย Stood on Manny Road North with my dad. ย Had to go down to the front to see, but could only see people's ankles because of the raised pitch.

Should have realised then it would mainly be a life of heartache and pain.

Your lads very lucky to go so soon. I begged my dad for ages to take me with him and I was 6, nearly 7 before he relented. With the help of Simon Marland and a vague memory of Hugh Curran playing, I've realised it was York City, a late season 1-1 draw in 1975/76.ย

I was at that game and I remember it. They were pink wafersย

I went seeing a fortune teller in Horwich before this game and she told me we won't lose it.ย  I was in the Manny Road getting ribbed at 2-0 down and smug we wouldn't lose it, then up popped Scott Green in the dying moments.ย  We'd of played DMBs if we'd of won the replay.

Not quiteย

When the draw was made it was Bolton v Utd or Southamptonย

Replay was at OT so it was expected they'd win and we'd have them at home

Which is probably why my dad got tickets as he took my watching Horwich RMI till that point

You are right about that, the reward for beating Southampton would have been Norwich at home in the last 8.Two seasons later Oldham's "reward" for beating Bolton was a semi final v Man Utd at Wembley. That would have been some occasionย  back in 1994 when Bolton had an exciting team and some hooligans.Oldham actually got withini 1 minute of winning at Wmbley before losing the replay

Went to penalties at OT.

Giggs played keepy uppy all the way from the half way line to the box as he took his, then hit it straight at the keeper.
