A gentleman of the game for sure  . Apparently he had to man mark Franz Beckenbauer out of the game in the 66 world cup final , a key role in the game .

RIP Bobby

Doesn’t sound right that, stiles was the man marker but beckenbauer was a CH, anyhow RIP Bobby, legend of the game and world class baller.

Well, he reckoned it was.

Sir Bobby Charlton describes the task of man-marking the 'awesome' Franz Beckenbauer - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/41532808

I guess (yet) another minute's silence upcoming then.

Loved to see the man in an England shirt. West Ham claim the glory behind the 1966 win but it was Bobby Charlton who was the driving force throughout the tournament.

Absolute gentleman. I never forget that as a wet behind the ears autograph hunter, stood out in the cold and rain, he would make sure that every single kid got every single photo etc. signed before he headed off whilst other players would sign a few and scarper.

This is no time for club rivalries. RIP Sir Bobby. A true great and a true gent.

It’ll be a minute applause in order to drown out the hard-of-thinking who would break a silence; even for this.

RIP Sir Bobby.

First and probably last time he’d been asked to man mark, suppose that’s why Ramsey was a managerial legend.
