Im in no position to preach as when i do drink i usually have too much, but @gonzo, thats fucking ridiculous

Seriously, not in a good way

Thats only ending in misery

Probably not just for you

Ā I know mate. Massive wake up call.Ā

Been here before so know I can get sorted and smash the gym again and stay off the ale for a bit.

Its what happens the next time the gloves are off again that annoys me. Might mean not drinking full stop.Ā

Biggest challenge is not drinking today.Ā

Fizzy water is your friend.

It has the sensation of beer.

And itā€™ll fill you up.

Gym smashed. Avoided the ale.

Been shaking like a shitting dog today :(

Trouble is mate, you're putting yourself at risk of a seizure from the withdrawal. Then it's a 12 month license loss and fuck knows what problems for your business. I know that from bitter experience (even if it wasnā€™t caused by ale).

Simply put, its not worth it.

Not sure how folks do it, if I have a big night dont want/can't face a drink the next few days.Ā

Also never had the DTs, is it just shakey hands or whole body stuff?

Like a good session as much as the next, my downfall is wine after beer, that normally ends in disaster, but generally with my falling asleep so it keeps me out of trouble at least!Ā

Also with the kids getting older, don't like getting too squiffy round them, so when we're together I don't tend to drink at all. NYE aside it's been relatively well behaved Xmas with a few days off in between having a drink. And it's been all the nicer for it, more time with the family, no daft lie ins, done more and managed to get through a couple of books which is nice when you have the time.

Another shout for fizzy water, I reckon we go through about 8-10 2 litre bottles a week.

I can easily have no beer but if I start I tend to go until my shoes are covered in mayonnaise and salad.

Defo gonna cut back this year as need to get my diabetes back in check before I lose a leg

I've witnessed this in Bristol, Liverpool, Hamburg* and London - it really is a thing

Ā

*Hamburg was extra special, as only about 3 hours later, @DazBobwas awoken by a pissed up @Big Edry humping him senseless in his hotel room. It's safe to say one of the two of them didn't find it as funny as the other one didĀ šŸ˜‰

One side effect of knocking ale on the head for me is I can't get back to sleep after my old man piss in the night.Ā

As a result I've started reading this book in the wee small hours and if I end up wearing an orange robe and giving out flowers I'm going to twat SpiderĀ

I can literally just hammer it on football days (mainly away games) and thatā€™s it nothing midweek

Thatā€™s where Iā€™m at. I enjoy a couple of pre-match beers, maybe more if staying overnight. Rarely drink at home.Ā

Does this book stop you drinking every single drink in the house till your completely obliterated and spend the next day counting down the minutes till its acceptable to drink again to stop the DTs?

Had two days off it over xmas but the rest has been my usual drinking to excess.Ā

Stayed over with family in the lakes NYE. Only me was on lager so it was easy to total my consumption the next day. 2 pints before I left followed by 26 cans/bottled throughout the night.Ā

Then straight back on it yesterday. 4 cans, then 5 pints in Red Lion followed by 10 cans last night.

Not good that is it :(

Is that it? Woke twatĀ

me and the mrs did the alan carr seminar to quit smoking several years agao

it did work, for about a month

am not giving up booze, never will, but this year I'm really going to tryt my hardest to make it weekends only bar social events like gigs and meals out (which don't happen often)

being encouraged to do the dry january by the other half

she's currently pregnant with child number 2 so she's on it by default, but I think I'll try and make it happen this year

so from April onwards when the next one arrives will probably have to keep it tidy anyway, plus I'm going to be an old dad so want to be in as primeĀ  condition as I can be

probably the fittest I've ever been in terms of cardio/strength training combined (sub 25 mins 5 ks on the treadmill in December), so losing some weight would be nice too

but most of all, it's really starting to dawn on me after 30 years of drinking that I feel miles better the next day when I've not had a drink, compared to when I have (or more to the point, am really starting to notice it more, not hangovers as such, just a general sense of wellbeing)

just need to keep reminding myself of that

during the week

Since I hit mid 40s I've just realised I can't do it anymore - the hangovers are just too evil, even a couple of drinks on a weeknight make me feel tired the next day.

Went to my first gig without having a drink this year - had a great time and didn't spend a shit load of overpriced drinks. Went for a meal beforehand and enjoyed it much more. Guess its an age thing.
